A lot of reviews are written by people who have a good knowledge about the items in question and give a full technical report. I however don't have an in-depth knowledge of Tablets and have never owned one before so I thought I'd write this review for others like me.
Spending this sort of money was a big deal for me so I did as much research into buying the right Tablet as I could, after a month I decided to go for this Archos 70b.
I've owned Archos products before and feel confident that they are well made. This tablet for me continues in that vein. It feels sturdy and solid and is very neat and compact. The 7 inch touch screen is perfect, no ripples that I've read about on some other models. The built in speakers either side of the screen are loud and clear and the kick stand on the back is a very clever idea.
The tablet itself is pretty awesome. The internet runs very smoothly and incredibly quickly considering that's not a given where I live but its only wi-fi, no 3G support. You really can pull it out of your pocket, turn it on and google something in under a minute though, no more waiting for the PC to boot up.
It's also pretty amazing for watching tv on too. The picture quality is superb and I was able to watch a live streaming football match last night without and breaks or problems.
The layout is pretty easy to get used to with pages flipping through as in a book and the preloaded apps for things like music and video are very nice. You also get asked when you set up your tablet if you want to download some apps which are also very good. It also comes with a trial Office app which is pretty smart.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does what it says on the Box 9 Mar 2012
By TrevK
This is my first Tablet of any kind and I would say I am an experienced Pc, Netbook, Windows 7 Smartphone user but have never used Android before. This Tablet uses 3.2 Honeycomb and I picked up its ease of use in about 10 minutes. Firmware update completed in minutes with no problems. I can say I have nothing to gripe about regarding this tablet. Size is obviously personal preference but I am entirely happy with the 7 inch display, which is bright and clear. Android market comes as standard and installing apps is a snip. Movies play with clarity and sharpness, the internal speakers are fine but headphones are obviously better. BBC Iplayer plays with smoothness and no interuption on wireless (obviously depending on signal strength). The capacitive screen is responsive with the pinch-zoom feature being particularly effective. Being an academic I have installed and easily read (using adobe app) pdf articles with no issues whatsoever. Installing Juice defender app has improved battery usage but turning off the wireless when not online is the best way forward here and I assume applies to all tablets. I installed an extra 16gb micro sd card to add to the 8gb internal memory, all of which is sufficient for my needs. As I said in the title, it does what it says on the tin!. Slightly fragile stand to enable movie viewing but works well. To be recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars Apps compatability a challenge 13 Jun 2012

I bought the Archos specifically to run PocketFMS. The Archos was chosen for the screen brightness, 302 cd/m2, resolution 1024 and size, 7 inches. PocketFMS was to be bought off Google Play, chosen using my laptop on Google Play. I signed the Archos onto Google Play and the app had disappeared - it was was not compatible. I also needed a Bluetooth-GPS app and that was not compatible either (a fair number of apps fell into this category). I contacted Archos and asked why so many apps were not compatible with their hardware and I got a standard 'it is the app vendors problem, talk to them'. The app vendors do not know about individual hardware. The Archos meets my other requirements - impressive in fact. I got a copy of PocketFMS from their own web site and after some permission setting issues got it working on the Archos. Bottom line: check tablet and app are compatible before parting with the cash.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Value Tablet 1 Mar 2012

This tablet seems good value for money without cutting too many corners. It's reasonably responsive but not as snappy as a £400 tablet. It's got Android 3.1 but not version 4. My advice is to buy this if you want a tablet and don't want to spend a lot of money. Don't buy it if you want the cutting edge of tech.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 7 inch Tablet - recommended purchase 14 Feb 2012
By Reg
I have used four android devices including the Archos 70. This upgraded version is very nice. Pretty responsive, better screen and, for me, the deal maker: usb charging. Yes you dont need to cart around a separate charger. Having used an ipad and an Android phone I would say that this 7 inch device is just the right size for a tablet. Big enough to see stuff but still nice to hold and very portable. I have found 10 inch devices too heavy to be holdable for any length of time. Honeycomb is good on this device but an ICS upgrade would be great. My only problem with the 70b is that when I try to connect it to my Mac over usb it not visible (and I am using android connect). Still very good value at £175.

Latest: Now no problem with Android Connect (probably just needed to reboot)
