Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The perfect music player for music fans to enjoy their CD collections on the go. The principal function of the Gmini is, of course, to play music. Because it has a real hard disk inside of it, you can store thousands of songs. Using a standard audio cable, you can also play your music through a home entertainment system. You can bring your entire CD collection with you anywhere and play it over anyone's sound system.

Putting music onto the Gmini is as easy as 'drag and drop' for your unprotected music files. And for protected purchased music from PlaysForSure web sites, it is as easy as clicking the Sync button in Windows Media Player 10. Plus, with its USB 2.0 high speed port, transfers are finished before you know it. The Gmini is also ID3 compatible. This means that the ARCLibrary will sort your music so that you can listen to it by artist, album, title, year, or genre. Click on Shuffle, and listen to your music at random

5.0 out of 5 stars Top Class For Music, 28 Sep 2005
This is a prime contender, i believe, to the apple ipod. First things first, the controls and navigation are not as slick as the ipod, nor is the player as sleek looking... But what is? I'm by no means an Ipod lover but ill admit that they are by far the best looking and the click wheel is the best navigational tool of any mp3 on the market. The archos' controls however are easily as good as, if not better than most other mp3s out there. There are only two buttons and a four way joystick, which takes a few days to get used to, but once you do, navigation is simple enough. Just remember, if you want to go back a step you don't always have to push the right button and then go to 'parent folder', simply click left on the joystick. Once i found this out, the nav became a whole lot easier!!

The player itself isn't bad looking. In fact it's quite nice! It has a shiny metallic casing and a large, blue backlit screen. the size of the player is also attractive, its easily as small as most 5/6GB players, but has a great 20GB capacity. The main attraction of this player is its simplicity. It supports 'play for sure' but i prefer to use drag and drop. By doing this i've been able to copy around 5GB of songs in round about 25 minutes!! I'm not however a great fan of the ARClibrary feature as I find it tends to separate some songs, even if they're on the same album. However all you do here is turn ARClibrary off in the setup, play mode menu and then all songs are displayed in the same folders and sub-folders that exist on your pc. Also battery life is good, but as with all players, a good set of headphones is recommended.

Overall I feel this is a brilliant player. It's small, attractive and has a huge memory. It may not suit everybody due to the lack of a colour screen or photo viewer, but if you want a good, solid player with fantastic music quality, then this is for you.

    5.0 out of 5 stars A Lifetimes Music in a Matchbox, 11 Dec 2005
By Nigel (Stafford, Staffordshire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
WOW - This is a very impresssive piece of kit. Tiny enough to fit in the palm of your hand and very simple and quick to set up and use. I transferred my 17 gig music file - nearly 400 albums in WMA format - to the unit, using simple drag and drop, in 70 minutes. There is no messing around changing file formats like with iPod. If you're into music, this is the one. It lacks a colour display, but music is about sound, right? This player sounds great - it is much louder than iPod - either through headphones or HiFi connection, or via cassette adapter in the car. I have transferred all my vinyl LP's and singles, cassettes and CD's to the unit - incredible to think thay all fit on such a small unit. The battery lasts ages between charges - 15-17 hours. My 2 only criticisms are the earphones suppled with the unit, which are not of comparable quality - so you will definately want to invest in some better ones, if you are serious about your music, and the lack of a good search facility - if the unit is full, you have to find your tracks by scrolling through a massive long list, which can take a while. Accessories are available from archos.com and came next day from Paris - excellent service - albeit expensive - I bought a leather case to protect the unit and a speaker case - cost £60! Had the unit about 3 months - totally reliable and VERY recommended - best £150 I've ever spent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantatsic Player, 29 Nov 2005
When looking for a replacement for my 1GB Creative Nano I was struck by the size (both physical and memory) and price of this little machine. Further research showed that it had great reviews, was small enough to fit in your pocket (neatly) and pretty simple to use. I've had mine a month now and think it's great. Had looked at others (iPODs, Creatives and SONY) but stteled on this as it does exactly what it says and it does it extremely well. Phones aren't that bad but an upgrade will yield better sound. Navigation via the joystick is fine and the menu straightforward. Highly recommended.
