Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The principal function of the Gmini XS 100 is, of course, to play music. Because it has a real hard disk inside of it, you can store hundreds of songs. Using a standard audio cable, you can also play your music through a home entertainment system. You can bring your entire CD collection with you anywhere and play it over anyone's sound system.Putting music onto your Gmini XS 100 is as easy as 'drag and drop' for your unprotected music files. And for protected purchased music from PlaysForSure web sites, it is as easy as clicking the Sync button in Windows Media Player. Plus, with its USB 2 high-speed port, transfers are finished before you know it. The Gmini XS 100 is also ID3 compatible. This means that the ARCLibrary will sort your music so that you can listen to it by artist, album, title, year, or genre. Click on Shuffle, and listen to your music at random. Finally, you can always use the Gmini XS 100 as a portable hard drive to carry your important files with you. You can even use the Archos double-browser to rename, create, copy, move, and delete files and folders.

5.0 out of 5 stars TOP WORK AMAZON!!, 1 Mar 2006

We all know what it's like, you see the MP3 player you want, you read the reviews and there's always one that puts a dampener on it, meaning you have to start your research all over again. Anyway, after months of researching MP3 players, 100's of reviews later, I thought I'd never make up my mind. I was trying to decide whether I should go for a large 20 or 30GB, or something smaller like 3 or 4 GB, ipod or another make, flashplayer, not flashplayer, can you use Windows Media? All these questions that eventually drive you round the bend on deciding. I eventually settled for the Archos Gmini, and I tell you what, I'm glad I did. Without even looking at any instructions, I plugged the USB to my PC and away it went. I filled the 3GB in about 15mins. It also charged in no less than an hour. Perfect!

The best thing of all..I ordered the Gmini off Amazon on a Sat, it arrived at my work on the FREE delivery Amazon offer, on the Tuesday. How's that for service!!

The Gmini is simple to navigate around, it pretty much works on the same principle as navigating around a mobile, so you wont get confused.

The only gripe, which I think is the same for every single make and model, of every ipod, MP3 player there is the market........the headphones. Toss them in the bin immediately and invest in a decent pair.

All in all, I'm very pleased, and it's perfect for any commute to work in the morning.

Top work Amazon for delivery and service and full marks for Archos for producing a small, cheap, good quality, good looking, adaptable, simple to use MP3 player.

5.0 out of 5 stars GreenBhoy, Glasgow, 8 Feb 2006

This review is from: Archos Gmini XS 100 Mini Music Player 3GB - Silver (Electronics)
Received my player yesterday, first of all, it looks ten times better than any photos, impressive metallic silver finish. It really is a smart looking piece of kit, good quality and solid feel.

Easy to navigate the menu's and folders, just plug in using the USB cable and XP instantly recognises it as a 'Jukebox' drive. Drag and drop mp3's using explorer or rip straight from CD using Mediaplayer.

The sound is great, there are different settings, Rock, Classic, Pop etc. There is also a 'custom' option that let's you set bass settings etc. I like my bass so used this setting and the sound is excellent. Better then any other mp3 players I have heard.

All in all, a great looking and sounding piece of kit.

Note, it is charged thru USB, doesn't come with a charger as stated in the description, this is a seperate option. I fully charged the battery from USB 2.0 after about 1.5 hours.

Go on.. your worth it !

This review is from: Archos Gmini XS 100 Mini Music Player 3GB - Silver (Electronics)
I decided to buy this as it seemed much better value for money than the iPod (bigger hard-drive, cheaper) and it's apparent ease of use.

On delivery, it did look good, was easy to use (did not have to refer to the manual much), but I noticed that there were a few little audible clicks when navigating the menu system. I checked with Archos support the next day and they said it possibly was a faulty hard-drive. So, Amazon to the resuce, I returned it and Amazon sent me a replacement.

The second device duly arrived in a very quick time, but unfortunately this device had the exact same problem. Although it was working, I did not want it to pack up after a couple of weeks, so I returned it to Amazon for a full refund.
