5.0 out of 5 stars Archos 97 5 Nov 2012
By Jazi
Bought this a week ago for my wife, despite the negative review on Amazon
To be fair to the product 179GBP for a tablet that has a decent size (9''), decent graphics and a good memory is pretty good, it is about the same price as most decent 7 '' tablets
Yes there is a partition issue, but I downloaded about 15 apps (facebook, skype, few games, netflix and weather etc..) and there is still half of the 500Mb left
If you are looking to load the tablet with 200 apps, you will have a problem
If you are looking for a good price tablet, with good grahics, to surf the net and watch videos and have a decent amount of apps on, it is a good tablet to have, and to be honest the only one at that size and price range at that level of quality

Verified Purchase
I bought this for my wife who has taken late to the internet and decided she did not want even a laptop but something more portable. She is delighted with the Archos 97 Carbon 9.7 inch Tablet which she finds convienient to use wherever she is.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good budget tablet but slightly sluggish 14 April 2013
By J. TING
If you jump straight from iPads and high end Samsung tablets to the Archos, you would think that there is something wrong with the Archos. Everything just takes an age to do anything. I almost returned the tablet after a couple of days. Then I tried out a few slightly cheaper tablets and realised that I needed to lower my expectations to match what I paid for the Archos.

As mentioned by other reviewers, the miniscule 512MB internal default storage for apps really limits what you can do with the tablet. Even if you move all downloaded apps to the SD memory, every app still uses up some of the precious internal memory and it soon runs out.

The onboard cameras befit the price: noisy, grainy and lacking in range. The video camera takes very jerky videos for the first few seconds and then seems to catch up afterwards.

However, as an e-reader, Web browser, online video player, and for doing Facebook, it works well enough. The standard size USB host port works well, but is occasionally picky about what memory sticks it would recognise.

The battery seems to last about 7 hours of constant use with the wifi on and just a bit longer with it off.

Google Chrome doesn't want to work on it :(

In summary, a reasonable but sluggish budget tablet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Budget Tablet 17 Jun 2013
Ok so I didn't buy this from Amazon but I do have a Archos Carbon tablet in my hands. No it cannot compare to an Ipad or the high end Samsung tablets but this isn't an ipad or a Samsung that cost in the excess of 300-500.

This tablet does most things the great, high expensive tablets do. Great for surfing, for apps, youtube, checking emails, playing games...it does all that and more. Ok yes it can be sluggish to boot up but don't most things. The only negative is that you can tell this isn't a Ipad but that's about it. Don't buy this on the pretence your getting a substitute for the ipad because you wont, but if you just want something to have decent amount of apps and to surf the net...this is the one for you. The internal storage, yes is small but I moved all things over to the SD card and I have installed a cleaner app that wipes away cache taking up much needed storage space. I have over 30+ apps and it still works as smooth and quick the day I brought it.

3.0 out of 5 stars 3 out of 5 seems right for majority of reviews 4 July 2013
By JDF
The small memory issue is annoying, however if you feel brave then you can root the device and install the custom firmware found here [...]

(Make sure you carefully read all the instructions and comments in the above thread and understand what you are doing)

Once I added the firmware the majority of issues were removed and honestly the only problem that remains is that internet browsing is a little crashy. But as a media playing device it's spot on and I can read, watch films, listen to music and browse comics to my hearts content.

1.0 out of 5 stars Completely let down by its charger! 30 Mar 2013
There is nothing wrong with this tablet when it works - a bit unresponsive, not the best screen resolution, but it's low cost so... However, the charger has the tiniest connector possible, extremely difficult to find. We broke it the very first time we used it and have ordered two more (which we got the next size up sent through) and been back to the shop and bought a standard one, twice. Neither of these solutions worked with the charger only working if you hold it in! Do not buy this tablet!!!!
