Don't judge a book by its cover,

I bought the Archos 2 as a inexpensive, small mp3 player.
It does have some very good benefits: - At £40 its 1/3rd the price of a Nano - It is sleek, and light - It has FM, a Mic, and SD Card compatibility - DRAG & DROP!!! No syncing with other software for your music The drawbacks are: - A really really bad User Interface (primitive). The Creative Nomad I bought in 2001 comes to mind. - Takes a long time to boot up (as far as mp3 players go). Takes about 5-8 seconds to load up when compared to most which are instantaneous - No AAC support Basically, it cannot replace a Nano. But it is a really good, cheap mp3 player. You won't be embarassed carrying it around at all, but the user interface is pretty poor. So if you are using for the gym, then its perfect. But if you want to use it as your primary Mp3 player, and you have the cash to buy a Nano then would not recommend it. 3.5 out of 5

Missing some basic requirements,

The Archos 2 is a missed opportunity. They should have focussed on the music MP3 aspect and ensured that this worked adequately before adding video etc.
The pro's and cons are: Small well made hardware Easy to add extra memory V good sound FM radio is excellent However, The screen info is terrible - why have a graphic equaliser display but no detail of artist or album The search facility by artist/album is a bit dodgy on my machine There is no playlist function There is no 'hold' button But you can download the lyrics for a song onto the screen (if you can figure out who it is!)How many will use this function compared to a playlist option? In an effort to look fancy and have lots of advanced features they have missed the opportunity to offer the customer a good quality MP3 player - which is what most customers will want from this product at this price.
