Pro's:
* It does everything
* It looks neat
* The price is great
* The sound and visuals are pretty good considering the size.
* The user interface is also very well designed - after 60 seconds I was an expert.
* I liked the way they put the PC software on the device itself which saves including a CD.
Con's
* Turning the machine on requires sliding the power switch to on AND pressing the play button for about 5 secs - I found this counter intuitive and initially thought my battery was dead.
* The screen is a little fragile and it cracked early on - you can't see when it plays but I know it's there.
* USB sometimes works when connected to PC (XP) but mostly doesn't for me. When it works I see a USB device called Archos with the various folders but when it doesn't I just get an empty folder called E: I'm using firmware 1.10.
* No proper charge indicator which means I just leave it to charge all night.
Possible future improvements
* stronger screen and frame
* Simpler on/off method
* Downloadable software or SDK - meaning we could have clocks, calendars and games etc.
* The text viewer could auto scroll with an adjustable speed.
* A few interesting screen savers would be nice so you could wear it with pride! For that matter it would be nice if it could actually attach to clothing.
* A small lanyard attachment (a hole in the corner) would be nice and then it could be worn around neck etc.
Conclusion:
I bought it so I could watch TED talks on it - it does this very well. I'll send the current one back because of the crack in the screen but I'll simply ask for a replacement. Then I'll just wait impatiently for a new firmware upgrade. If the screen didn't have a crack and the USB worked a bit better then it would be an easy 5 stars.

This is a brilliant MP3 player at a fantastic price. I have bought other players in the past and they have had the usual 'chinglish' manual and complicated and confusing buttons, so when I say that this is nothing like the others, I say this from experience...
The unit turned up in good time and arrived in a proper retail box, with instructions, mini USB cable and actually some decent headphones. I was expecting the usual poor quality earphones, but these really are very good!.. Once charged the Archos is extremely easy to use, with seperate volume control and proper function buttons, this is a real 'quality' item. I did not expect this for the price and it actually comes with software (and instructions) to convert video files, which I have tried and actually works very well with no 'lip-synch' issues that I could see.
I cannot think of anything wrong with this MP3/4 player, which amazed me for the tiny price and is 4GB, all properly viewed as a drive in Windows, so drag and drop is effortless. After an hour, we were up and running with music tracks on board and the title of tracks shown on screen. Honestly, this is a brilliant little player and can be secreated anywhere about your person so is ideal for running. It really is tiny!..

Probably the worst packaged and poorest quality item ever on Amazon, then when it didn't work 'my memory' have ignored too refund me and take ages to reply, 3 weeks past my parteners birthday and still no refund or mp3. What a Joke.
