Format:Audio CD
Enormously amusing and terribly moving, piano playing and songwriting craftmanship to die for. No one interprets these songs better than Mr. Webb. My scratched 30 year old vinyl copy of 'Letters' can now be retired.

Format:Audio CD
This album features tracks from all Jimmy Webb albums from 'Words & Music' up to and including 'El Mirage'.
It doesn't contain any tracks from 'Jim Webb Sings Jim Webb' which was released without Webb's permission.
I love all those albums and for a while this compilation was all you could get on CD. Later they were all released on CD with the notable exception of 'And So: On'. There is a story that the master tapes of that album are lost, but still 'Archive' features 3 of the tracks from that very album.
My favourite tracks here are 'Galveston', 'Asleep On The Winds' and 'The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress' but there really isn't a weak track on the album. A very good introduction to Jimmy's older material.

Found this quite recently, but been playing it incessantly ever since. It realy is a great collection. I can't understand why his own recordings have never had much airtime because he does everything so much better than anybody else. Just listen to the 'Tunesmith' double-album, which contains a lot of truly dreadful versions of some very good songs.
Once you have heard Jim do 'Galveston' I guarantee you will never, ever want to hear the Glenn Campbell version again. I know they were great mates etc. but it really didn't do it justice.
He writes clever lyrics and beautiful tunes and has a great sense of humour. At least I think 'Just this one time' was meant as a joke!
Anyway, what I need now is a similar compilation covering the last 25 years or so. I just bought 'Twilight of the Renegades' and it is VERY interesting, but very different and I would like a collection of what he was doing in between.
