Product Description

Product Description

New from acclaimed photographer Will Pryce, co-author of the bestselling Brick: A World History, comes the first comprehensive history of the traditions and achievements of international wooden architecture. Pryce's spectacular photographs portray a dazzling, diverse collection of structures, spanning the globe and uniting the very beginnings of architecture with its 21st-century future, in which new buildings make a powerful environmental and aesthetic case for wood as a material for all time.

About the Author

Will Pryce is an award-winning photographer who trained as an architect at Cambridge University and the Royal College of Art. In 1997 he co-founded Nostoc, a multi-disciplinary agency providing design and visualization services to such major architects as Foster and Partners. His most recent book, in collaboration with James Campbell, is the hugely acclaimed Brick: A World History, hailed by The Sunday Telegraph as 'exceptionally interesting and beautiful'.

really beautiful 12 Dec 2005
Format:Hardcover
This is a really beautiful book as well as a lucid account of a much overlooked building tradition. I was particularly fascinated by the wooden architecture of China, Japan and Burma - wooden buildings so unlike our own.

Pryce of Harmony 2 Jan 2006
Format:Hardcover
This book is fantastic. Pryce’s photographs are excellent again, but this time he is both photographer and writer, which makes for a beautifully unique harmony between the images and the text. This is a delightful lesson in architecture, history, construction, religion, geography and photography. An eminent and stylish piece of work.
