This is probably thr most special techno/house-album mix I've ever heard. It's been around since 97/98, and was a part of the emerging tech-house scene at the time, although I would not describe it as tech-house as we know it today, but rather as house-elements mixed over a techno-foundation.

I do not normally write reviews, but this record deserves all the credits it can get. The mixing is superb, and the rhythms and soundscapes changes fluently throughout. I sometimes find it hard to decide whether I find the mix "soft" or "hard", becuase these two elements are so well put together, often at the same time. After 11 years I'm still not tired of it, and I haven't heard something quite like this ever after, even not from Terry Francis himself.

I recommend everybody into house or techno to get themselves a copy, (if they don't have one already)

5.0 out of 5 stars Tech sound well produced from the get go... 10 Feb 2002
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Terry Francis presents architecture (Volume 1) is one of the crispest sounding albums I think I've ever listened to, thanks mostly to it's 'tech house' sound.
I've owned this album since about 1998 and it's still one of my favourite albums of all time. I have lots of DJ compilations, mixes and dance albums but this is still a seminal work from Mr Francis. Right from the opening you know you're about to embark of a gorgeous melodic ride, and it never disappoints and continually keeps your interest.
In many ways this was a sound before it's time, but does echo albums like JDJ 'After Hours' (Vol.1) - another beautiful sounding album. It's hard to describe Architecture 1 (Vol.2 was a bit harder, but still good) - it's probably a precursor to the progressive sound that started a while afterward. This highly eclectic mix was almost certainly inspiration to DJs like Nick Warren who later produced mixes which themselves echoed this 'progressive' style.
Every time I put on this CD sunshine comes out of my stereo, I love it to bits.

5.0 out of 5 stars technique 14 Oct 2011

perfect when it came out and still standing up to scrutiny today this is a snapshot of terry francis when he was the best underground dj in the world.

perhaps the 'tout est bleu' (fk remix) is a little too brisk - terry's pitched it up - but oh what a mix.

bright, shiny, optimistic from the time that ecstasy still fuelled positive visions of a future.

don't delay, buy today.

I bought this cd because I heard on the internet it was such a cool compilation. It is, but maybe it's not my style 100%.
