I am using this after a quick rattle through of the Aubin book to learn AEC. It will appeal to those with little AutoCad experience as it covers drawing basics. So far it seems pretty comprehensive and reasonably well explained however if you try to do the Projects from the CD as a means of improving your understanding you will first have to battle to read the dimensions on the drawings in order to make use of them. The text is fine but the dimensions are so pixillated as to be illegible and if I had known how awkward to read I probably wouldn`t have bought this expensive book. I am astounded that something this bad could be presented to a learning public. Sort it out Marsden Design Associates or David Madsen or Ron Palma or the Publishers. You get one star instead of four + for this reason

Very comprehensive! 14 May 2004

This was the fourth book I read on Architectural Desktop. I 've used AutoCAD for 7 years and decided to go a bit further. This book was by far the best I read (including Paul Aubin's). I would suggest it to everyone!

Architectural Desktop3.0/3.3 21 Aug 2003
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book provides comprehensive coverage of Autodesk's Architectural Desktop. This is the best book I have found for Architectural Desktop training. The text provides you with easy to read and follow tools and commands needed to create complete sets of construction documents for residential and commercial applications. Screen displays and illustrations accompanying the discussion of every topic clearly demonstrate the commands and topics. Exercises are provided throughout and allow you to practice what you are learning. Each chapter has questions that give you an opportunity to review what you have learned. Learning objectives begin each chapter. There is a great feature called Field Notes that give a variety of professional tips, advanced applications, and additional instruction throughout the book. The projects provided on CD are difficult to read, but the in-text exercises are enough to learn Architectural Desktop.

Good book but useless projects 29 Aug 2002
By Mark Denehy - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I am using this book to learn AEC after working through the Aubin book. So far so good. However if you try to use the CD to do the Projects you will increase your blood pressure because the dimensions on the diagrams are impossible to read being too pixillated. As the text is fine its not due to them being in pdf so why didn`t someone spot this. This means it is very hard to reinforce the extensive knowledge in the book by doing the projects. I bought the book in the uk for £50 and is not cheap for the CD to be nearly worthless. This could have been "the book for AEC" but the CD blows it for them.

CD included , (but not meant for exercises!) 24 Feb 2003
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Forget my previous comments of yesterday made in a fit of frustration. I have discovered that the .dwg files used during the exercises are in fact created by yourself as you go through the book. Duh. The PDF files are useful in their own right. It's a good book! Now where was I... Chapter 2
