Book Description

Architects′ Data provides an essential reference for the initial design and planning of a building project. Organised largely by building type, and with over 6000 diagrams, it provides a mass of data on spatial requirements and also covers planning criteria and considerations of function and siting.

Most illustrations are dimensioned and each building type includes plans, sections, site layouts and design details. There are substantial new sections on:

· building components
· services
· heating
· lighting
· thermal and sound insulation
· fire protection
· designing for the disabled

An extensive bibliography and a detailed set of metric/imperial conversion tables are included.

Since it was first published in Germany in 1936, Ernst Neufert′s handbook has been progressively revised and updated through 35 editions and many translations. This Third Edition of the English language version has been revised for the first time in 20 years and completely reworked, with 40% more material, to provide a major new edition for an international readership.

"Neufert′s Architect′s Data was the first book I bought when I started my studies in architecture. It was invaluable for me then and it is still a useful aid in my designs. "

During my studies I discovered this book by accident, and ever since it became part of my architecture bibles!

It provides dimensions for almost everything that is ascosiated with building industry, as well as human proportions and minimum - maximum dimensions that come in handy when dealing with furniture design. It may lack a couple of dimensioning sets, but then again this is not an issue, because simply enough you can get anything you need by just combining dimensions from each section. (And I am sure with every newer edition, new material will be added.)

I cannot think of any other reference book that would be as needed and helpful.

Having Neufert's Architect's Data is a must on every architect's and student of architecture bookshelve. It provides all the required dimensions of most things one commonly (and not so commonly) meets in life. This edition is a much-needed update of the older version which was in itself a very useful edition. The editors have done a very good job in not repeating information which appeared in the previous version, but included much new material. A section on outdoor lighting with the aim of minimising glare and light pollution from outdoor lighting fixtures would have been much appropriate these days.

Dimensions and planning data for many building types are given, yet astronomical observatories and/or planetaria are again omitted...

All in all, this is a very useful publication and should be the first purchase of any architecture student.

5.0 out of 5 stars not only for Architects a must have! 11 April 2006
Format:Paperback
This book is such a must or need have for everyone in the building industry. All references you need for a price that's very sweet for priceless information. And thank you for not translating this into feet and inches. This is metric info as it should be in Europe! With all drawings it's also a guide for multi discipline and multi language situations. Now let's wait for a digital edition you can fit into AutoCad or Revit or just as a helpfile reference while working out plans or designing them!

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than the Metric Handbook 12 Jan 2011
By Nats
Format:Paperback
This book was my bible throughout University and beyond. I used it for everything - but the thermal properties of various materials was a particularly useful part. However I got rid of my old edition and, swayed by all my fellow students, got the Metric Handbook and was very disappointed with it. Ive been meaning to get another one of these for years now soon I will. Then the Metric Handbook will be going in the bin.
