Archie never shied away from a tackle in his twenty-year professional career and he is just as forthright when remembering his bitter clashes with characters such as Jock Stein, Ally MacLeod and Tommy Docherty. In his fast-moving story, he reveals for the first time the truth behind his ommission from Forest's European Cup-winning team; how sticking up for Alan Hansen and Graeme Souness cost him his Scotland job; how Ally MacLeod stripped him of the Scotland captaincy; and details his long-running feud with Tommy Docherty, who made him a scapegoat for defeat by England and led to a three-year exile from the Scotland team. Featuring a foreword by his great friend, the late Brian Clough, this is a compelling story highlighting the glory and agony of a lifetime spent in football.
About the Author
Archie Gemmill was born in Paisley in 1947. At the age of sixteen he signed for St Mirren's, then made the journey south to play for Preston in 1967. Then followed signings for Derby, Nottingham Forest, and Birmingham City. He won 43 caps for Scotland, and will always be remembered for one of the greatest ever World Cup goals against Holland in 1978.

A cracking little read about a player mostly remembered for that wonder goal he scored for Scotland against Holland in the 1978 World Cup Finals.
Archie talks with great fondness of his time helping Derby County and Nottingham Forest to success both home and abroad and offers many a tale about his ups and downs playing under Clough and Taylor.
Here he goes into great detail about his ommission from the Forest line up for the European Cup Final against Malmo,something that still hurts him to this day,and how his long running feud with Tommy Docherty led to a three year exile from International football.
Also covered are his time spent with St.Mirren,Preston and Birmingham and also when acting as coach and foreign scout back at his old clubs Forest and Derby and his one and only stab at management with Rotherham.
Gemmill,by his own admission was a stubborn little so and so who wasn't affraid to speak his mind as he demanded only the very best from those around him,often making him unpopular in the football circle.
However,he does come across as a loving family man who never gave less than 100% to the sport he so obviously loves and you can't ask for much more than that.
