I have had this CD for a few weeks and I must admit it's pretty awesome stuff. If you are new to SB6, they are from Manchester and they specialize in mixing up musical styles in quite a revolutionary way. So you get a punk/ska base with some inspired rapping all delivered at high speed. I love this CD and for me it proves that there is pretty much no-one else to touch SB6 musically. Their politics you can take or leave but I find their observations absolutely spot-on. Their melodies and hooks are really without any equal in 2007 and their spirit and fire rival any of the best punk acts, either past or present.
I feel that they have really grown since their last wonderful effort, "Ruff Guide To Genre Terrorism", and their arrangements on this CD are beautifully constructed. On top of which, they seem to be very comfortable with the album format - they really know how to finish a record as the fabulous "For 12 weeks, the city is theirs" proves beyond a doubt. But in fairness, every track is an absolute gem.
As it is with all great groups, if you buy this CD I can guarantee that you are going to be instantly hooked on their blend of musical brilliance. This one is pretty close to my favourite album of the year and I strongly suspect that some lists are going to have to be hastily re-written. It is ironic that in a year when, in my opinion, British music has had very little of value to offer, this CD arrives late in the day. It is also particularly gratifying to find that it is by folks from my home town. I cannot recommend this album highly enough and I can't wait to hear their next one.
