The perfect gift for anyone who spent their childhood in video arcades, "Arcade Fever" is a pop-culture nostalgia trip you won't want to miss! 4.0 out of 5 stars Pixel Porn 31 Dec 2001
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
Although "Arcade Nation"'s text is scant and cheesy, what makes this book is the pornographic array of screen and cabinet shots-reducing the reader to the vegetative,slack-jawed state you experienced when watching an older kid clean up on "Gorf".If you want a book to "read"-get "Joystick Nation"-but if you just want to gaze at ace glossy colour pics then get this-not as exhaustive or expertly designed as "Electronic Plastic",but great all the same.

3.0 out of 5 stars book for kids!!! 2 Oct 2001
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
well I thought this book was going to be great... the pics are great, but the text is quite painfull to read, the book is presnted like a kids video game magazine more than a quality book, e.g. there is an interview with nolan bushnall where he gets asked such insitefull questions as "did you have trouble saying "nutting associates" with a straigh face" yes hahaha...... another section that made me wince was "celluloid nightmares" - "a disturbing trend in the 1990's saw popular video games made in to awful movies, thankfully the following travesties never made it to the silver screen" then we get a list of imaginary films based on ms. pacman and others with cast lists....well I think you get the idea great pictures, and thats it a shorter more serious description might have been a better read...The book I would love to see, would consist of pictures of a machine from all angles, then an article about the game written by the programmer or someone who was closely involved in the project...this is a poor book on an underpopulated subject, so I would still say if you love retro games memorabilia that you should probably buy it!

I've had this book on pre-order since April, so when it finally arrived I ripped the parcel open, and can thankfully say that I was not disappointed.

If you have other arcade related books in your collection already and are wondering why you should shell out on another, I'll explain.

Basically, this book is different to any of the others I have seen. The author, John Sellers doesn't try to provide the reader with an in-depth history of videogames, but instead devotes a page or two to each classic title.

Then there's the pictures. There are loads of them! Each page is a rainbow of colour featuring shots of the arcade machine in question along with game screens and more.

If you're over the age of 20 and names such as `Pacman`, `Donkey Kong` and `Dig Dug` send a shiver down your spine, you could do a lot worse than add this to your collection.

Top stuff indeed!
