Product Description

Product Description

The first stroke-by-stroke guide ever produced for learning to write Naskh, one of the six major cursive Arabic scripts. Its origins can be traced back to the late eighth century AD and it is still in use today, over 1300 years later. The Ottoman Turks considered Naskh the script most suited for copying the Qur'an and today more Qur'ans are copied in Naskh throughout the Islamic world than in all other Arabic scripts combined. This introductory workbook makes it possible for everyone to learn and enjoy the beauty of Arabic calligraphy. Based on his experience of running workshops and demonstrations at The British Museum and other cultural institutions around the UK, Mustafa Ja'far has created an easy-to-follow, teach-yourself guide.

Very very good book. I'd been looking for a workbook for Arabic Calligraphy for years but never found any. This is not just a workbook, but also a very good one. Lots of good information about the process, and beautifully clear letters and instruction.

It's probably important to point out that this is about calligraphy, and not about just writing Arabic as a language, since that does differ.

I had wondered about the 'ayn letter, and had tried to reproduce it with oblique nibbed pens, and here was the revelation of how they arrived at that shape! Well worth it. I wish this author would do a series of such books on the different scripts.

this book teaches the reader how to do Arabic calligraphy. From writng individual letters to joining letters together. The author has provided notes on the side of each letter to tell how to begin with esch letter. I wish there were some colour manuscript examples included at the end.

This is a very good and beautiful book to introduce Arabic Calligraphy to the masses. Each letter is a piece of art. Each letter has a message and structure which can be easily and logically understood, but never copied.
