When Crown Prince Jaspar al-Husayn came into Frederica's life, she was struck by his arrogance and sensuality. Jaspar had come to take his nephew, Ben, back to his homeland. But Freddy refused to part with the child she had been caring for and to fulfill her promise to her cousin Erica, - Ben's mother, she pretended to be Ben's mother. Her bravery caused the kidnap of Ben to Quamar and to get him back, she proposed marriage to the Crown Prince Jasper.
Threatened and blackmailed into marrying Frederica against his will, Crown prince Jasper was not a `happy camper' and his displeasure reached new heights when he found out on their wedding night that his wife was untouched, so how did she give birth to his nephew? Distrust and anger was hardly a strong basis to embark on a royal marriage. What will happen to her now that the Crown Prince knew that she lied and blackmailed him?
This is a gripping tale of love, romance, desperation and survival. A classic tale of `desperate times requiring desperate measures'. Lynne portrayed beautifully the vulnerability and desperation that drove Freddy to do what was necessary to protect her nephew when she felt his security and well being threatened. Driven by love and a keen sense of survival, she was able to stand up to the King, the Crown Price and a powerful rich nation that wanted to keep her from her beloved nephew. I also liked the Crown Prince whose love and admiration for Freddy mellowed him so much that he worked extra hard to make their marriage work. Just when Freddie thought that nothing could top her happiness, a devoted husband, a new born son Kareem and Ben their first son, her husband presented her with another gift - he had located one of her sisters - Misty Carlton . Misty is the Heroine in the book `Disobedient mistress', as this is the first of the trilogy `sister brides', Lynne did a great job in linking all three books. This is a great read.
