Review

"'Horse lovers will dote on this impressive, handsome volume' - Publisher's Weekly 'Magnificent... sensational photographs... the definitive book about the noblest breed in all the equine world' - Irish Independent 'Superbly illustrated' - Horse & Hound"

Product Description

The almost spiritual relationship between the Arab and his horse and the longstanding fascination the world over for this purest-bred of all animals lie at the core of this sumptuously illustrated work. Tracing the history of the Arabian (or Arab) horse from before the time of King Solomon to the present day, the text by Peter Upton - author, artist and internationally recognized expert on the subject - explains the true origins of the breed and its role in Arab history. At the heart of the book are beautiful photographs of the horses themselves, arranged by geographical area. With its unrivalled range of illustrations, a comprehensive list of Arab horse organizations, registries and societies, a glossary of Arabic terms and a useful bibliography, here is the definitive book, in words and pictures, of the noblest breed in all the equine world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully Photographed, and Offers an Avenue for Understanding Arab Culture, 11 Dec 2008
By Eagle Eye - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Arabian Horse: History, Mystery and Magic (Paperback)
This book is beautifully photographed. Reading about Arabian horses opens an alternate window into Arab, particularly bedu, culture. As this book shows, much of this breed's traits are due to its long association with human settlement. Enjoyable and interesting read.

4.0 out of 5 stars It is the exact same book as Arabians, 9 Feb 2010
By Sally Mercer - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Arabian Horse: History, Mystery and Magic (Paperback)
I bought this book along with one just called Arabians and it is the exact same book. Different cover. Different publisher, but same book. And lots more expensive. Beware. Sally Mercer

5.0 out of 5 stars Captivating, 19 Dec 2009
By L. White - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Arabian Horse: History, Mystery and Magic (Paperback)
This book gives an alternate view of Islam for the Westerner. The photographs are wonderful, the writing interesting and interspersed throughout is a respect and gratitude for the horse, the people who have preserved the breed and cared for it, and the land which nurtured it -- all through the Islamic heart. I enjoyed it.
