Product Description

Product Description

Ar nosurge is a Fantasy, Sci-fi, '7 Dimension' RPG, that takes place in a world where music and song can create magic. It tells the compelling story of a civilisation that lost their planet and has been roaming the edge of space for 2000 years in search of a new home. The player follows two sets of characters: Delta and Casty, whose goal is to protect humanity and save the world, and Ion & Earthes, who are trying to find Ion a way home to Earth. The player can interchange between both pairs and soon discover a way to combine their storylines and strengths to eventually solve the mystery that shrouds their ongoing struggle. Much like most titles developed by Gust, this is an intricately deep turn-based RPG and it includes a detailed synthesis system for players to create their own items. Additionally, Ar Nosurge: Ode to an Unborn Star has a unique character development system that focuses more on the bonds/ relationships between the main characters than their success in missions and battles, as the player's party grows stronger if the characters have a closer relationship. Additionally, when in battle, character pairs fight together. One is always the first line of defence, attacking enemies in melee with knives and swords while protecting the other, who is weaving a song to fend off enemies. The longer the song lasts the more damage it creates- not only to enemies visible on screen, but to ones that are in line to attack. FEATURES o Synthesis system for item creation. o Unique character development system- based on in game character bonds (friendship/ romance) o Impressive length - typically around 100 hours o Anime-like sci fi scenario.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my top 3 games on ps3 6 Dec. 2014
By Pillar
I bought this game from shopto.net so don't worry because I will not appear as a verified purchaser.

I had high expectations for this game and it exceeded them. In fact, I would consider this game in my top 3 games on the ps3 system. I will not spoil the story for you but I will list why I like the game.

Great visuals: the animation and art of the characters are well-done and gorgeous and better than many other JRPGs in this genre.

Battle system: it's turn-based and requires some tactics particularly if you want to challenge yourself at higher difficulty settings. I found the premise and mechanics easy to understand but tricky to master as you need to figure out the minute details of it like harmonics and burst.

Characters: They are lovable and unique and I found myself identifying and caring about them particularly the heroines.

Good music: There are many good songs in this game and actually singing is a very important element in this game story-wise.

I played this game when I had other good games such as fairy fencer and tales of xillia but this one was the best and this is coming from somebody who didn't like very much the previously released instalment in this series on ps3.

The game has dual audio so if you do not like a particular character voice you can change the language.

However, the game has lots of reading particularly when synthesising equipment and weapons which could be a minus for some people. Also, there is lot of nudity in this game if you are sensitive to this issue.

Finally, if you are a fan of anime and Japanese RPGs, I strongly recommend this game.

It's not often I write reviews for games , mainly because I’m lazy but mostly because games need to really pull me in to make it worth the effort to actually spend time to write one. Well as you can see this is a review so it’s fairly easy to say that this game did just that and maybe a bit more.

Firstly let me start off by saying that this game is a sequel to the PS Vita exclusive Ciel Nosurge (kinda annoyed by the exclusive bit now I’ve played this one I must say) released back in 2012.

I had no knowledge of the story for the original, I didn’t even know it existed to be honest but don’t let that put you off. The game employs something that a lot of RPG makers should sit up and take notice of, via the use of an instant go to encyclopaedia for plot important words that regularly crop up. Just hit select when a word in purple appears to see an actual comprehensive entry as to what the hell the characters are talking about.
It also paces itself in a way that the reveals and twists that happen throughout (and there are a LOT) don't become less effective through the knowledge of the previous game...although some twists may be spoilt if you play the first one but that’s just conjecture on my part.

Ok that’s enough gushing about that aspect let’s get on with the main review bits and bobs.

Combat - 8/10
The combat in this game is quite unlike any I’ve seen before. It manages to be simple without being dumbed down and so fast paced that it’s almost addictive.
The way it works is that in every area enemies come at you in waves.

Firstly before deciding to purchase this game you need to be aware of the following.
-There is a lot of text and un-voiced dialogue even in the Japanese dub. If you cannot stand in-depth story with little gameplay this game is not for you. It wouldn't be pushing it to describe it as a visual novel with gameplay elements.
-There is a lot of minor translation errors nothing story breaking though but I would avoid this game if this kind of thing grates on your nerves.
-You will most likely read/watch more than you actually play and take control.
-Finally one character in particular may upset some with their uneeded display of their butt crack for some reason. It is just one character and due to how awesome she is, it can be forgiven but for the more puritan among you, again I would suggest avoiding the game.

If the following above doesn't bother you in the slightest you will probably enjoy the game as much as I did. While it is generous to give this game a 5 star. The story, character development and the soundtrack is such a harmonious combination it would be great if other games in the same genre took notice of what Ar Nosurge has done. I will try to describe this briefly if I can.

Story
Pure excellence its rare to make a player feel so involved in the story and care so much for the cast. I will admit you will feel a little confused at first as the west were denied the ability to play the prequel to the game which was a shame but once you become more familiar you will then become a little frustrated. You follow Delta and Cass or Earthes and Ion as they need to come to understanding to work together to perform a miracle that always seems beyond your grasp at first.
