Product Description

Aqua Optima has partnered with The One Foundation to launch a range of One Water fridge jugs and long life water filter packs.

There are over a billion people in the world who don't have access to clean water. By buying this One Water fridge jug you are also helping to give thousands of African children clean water too. That's because for every fridge jug you buy we give £1 to fund ingenious roundabout powered PlayPump water systems. As children play on the roundabout, clean water is pumped from deep underground into storage tanks for the entire community.

To date, thanks to people like you, the One Foundation has raised over £4 million and changed the lives of over a million people. The One Foundation and Aqua Optima aim to fund another 40 PlayPumps and improve the lives of thousands more people.

The One Water fridge jug includes Aqua Optima's latest Double Life 60-day filters; that's 200 litres of cleaner, great tasting water. Purer water for a fraction of the cost of bottled water. The unique 5-step filter system is designed to remove impurities from tap water, giving you better tasting hot & cold drinks.

Here are just a few of the benefits of using an Aqua Optima water filter.

The oily layer on the top of your drink will have disappeared as Aqua Optima filters out impurities from your water – even your vegetables will look brighter when steamed in filtered water.

The taste and smell of chlorine, used by many water companies to disinfect water will have been removed.

In hard water areas, the white particles of sediment so often found floating in your drink will have been filtered out. Aqua Optima filtered water will reduce the build-up of limescale giving you longer lasting appliances.

Aqua Optima will also reduce heavy metals (including up to 95% of lead and 75% of copper, both of which may be found in domestic water pipes), as well as herbicides and pesticides.

Aqua Optima water filters contain no added salts, so you can rest assured that you are not altering the pH balance of your water.

Aqua Optima filters out impurities, but allows through elements found in water that are necessary for the proper functioning of our bodies such as fluoride, potassium and magnesium.

Aqua Optima water filters have been designed to deliver a consistent performance throughout their life, allowing you to enjoy the benefits of filtered water with complete peace of mind

The One Water jug from Aqua Optima is almost identical to a water filter jug my wife brought home from the London Vitality Show earlier this year. That jug performed quite well while we used it but we gave it up when finding replacement cartridges locally proved a bit tricky, and went back to using our Brita jug.

I like the idea of supporting good causes with products I would normally use anyway, and that is a plus for this new jug - also replacement cartridges can be easily obtained from Amazon now. It is difficult to know if these jugs meet all the claims made as analysing the filtered water is beyond the average user, but we live in a hard water area and this jug seems effective at preventing lime-scale build-up in our kettle.

Aqua Optima supply a number of different jug and filter packages and to support the One Foundation it is important to purchase their One Water products. One pound is given from every jug or four-cartridge pack purchased.

The jug just about fits in my fridge door, but I can see it might not fit in all fridges. It is easy enough to use and I like the electronic counter. The long-life replacement cartridges seem to be reasonable value from Amazon. Whether I will revert back to my Brita jug or not is still debatable, but it has to be one or the other as the cartridges are not interchangeable.

The Aqua Optima One Water jug is a reasonable enough filter jug and the cartridge format is supported by a number of kettle manufacturers. The One Foundation provide a novel solution to an old problem and using this jug to help them may make your early morning cuppa taste a little bit better!

This water filter jug is advertised as for use in your fridge so you always have cool water to hand. I do not think the design great from the point of view of fitting easily in a fridge as it is needlessly curvy sided which means it is taller andwider than it needs have been had it been designed with more rectangular sides. ie the curves mean it takes up more space than it need do in your fridge,
I however do not care about this as I do not use it in my fridge as I like to use mine to filter my water prior to it going in my kettle. This trick means you reduce the amount of scale buildup in your kettle and, if you like coffee, get a better tasting cuppa as filter coffee prefers purer water. (if you a tea drinker the converse is true).
It was quite hard to assemble it as everything was very snug and I had to have a couple of trys to get all to click into place. There is a battery timer which you need to set and this tells you when your 60 days of filter life (or 30 if you buy the shorter range model) is up.
Filling it really nice; there is a fancy flap that falls open with the force of the tap water hitting it, and this means you do not have to remove the lid. It takes a while to filter though, and the lid is not quite well fitting enough that it does not come through unflitered when pouring so you must be careful to wait till all has filtered through before pouring, so I prefer to take the water I want before filling it. When filling it you must be very careful not to overfil it as I saw there is some leakage and this time it is from the filling chamber into the area below, ie you can get unfiltered water contaminating your filtered water.

I always had another brand waterfilters and jug, but it's hard
to get filters for that one, so I bought this one. It works very fast
and the water is filtered much better then my previous one!

I paid just £5.50 for this in the sale and I would have been pretty happy at the usual Amazon price of £11. I live in a hard water area with fairly mediocre tap water quality and what I am now drinking tastes far better and the lack of crud in glassware implies the purity of the water is improved. Fits great in my fridge door so very pleased indeed.

An added bonus is that £1 from the sale of these goes to African water projects.

Easy to use, easy to fill. Not very much complication behind using this.

I will note that when I went to take it apart for the first time to put it all together, that two edges of the plastic holder for the filter had snapped off - luckily however, the filter still fits on without letting extra water (not filtered) leak through.

I don't notice any difference in the taste (I don't really like the taste of plain water), however, I've been using it to fill the kettle and I have noticed I don't see those "greasy" looking tops on the water of my coffee and tea before the milk goes in. So it's definitely filtering out something.

Also like to note that when you buy filters, you're supporting people in third world countries by money being donated to their water systems for clean safe water for them. Not a bad thing!

Absolutely no better or worse than my old filter jug: the only two bonuses I would say are that its slim enough to fit into the fridge door which meant shelf space wasnt used up like my older one, and buying it means you donate to a charity which is a lovely touch.

Other than that it DID take away the chlorine-y taste of my tap water, but didnt make any difference to the heavy limescale I get in my kettle.

Maybe in a softer water area it would be awesome - for me it was just standard. Still, I like the two points I mention above enough to say if youre looking for "any" water filter jug - Id recommend this one. I wouldnt however buy it on an impulse purchase or if you want a high performance one (ie if you live in a hard water area)
