OK film. Bad transfer., 2 Oct 2007
This review is from: April In Paris [1952] (DVD)
This edition of April in Paris is, as far as I can see, not available seperately. The disc here is from the DVD box "The Doris Day Anthology". It is not, as one should expect for an edition made by the original movie company, in any way restored. This seems to be a direct transfer of the British VHS edition from ca. 1990. The quality of the transfer is barely acceptable, even if it is watchable. This is indeed shameful. There are no extras, except for English subtitles, and they come in handy, as the sound is only a little bit better than the picture quality.
The move itself is definitely not one of Miss Days better efforts. The story is unbelievable and so is Ray Bolger as the romantic interest. He has not got the charm needed to make us believe that Miss Day would fall for him, being much older than she was at the time. He has, however, a fine solo dance number, and Doris Day also has a couple of good songs along the way, especially the classic title number.
This movie is not available in an American edition yet (October 2007), and I would suspect that when it is, it will be restored to its original visual beauty, typical of Warner Technicolor efforts of the period. Better wait.

Not Doris' best, 6 April 2001
By A Customer
Doris Day shines in an otherwise mediocore and implausable film. Her co star is unsuited both to the role he plays and the genre of film. Only die hard Doris fans will truly enjoy.

Just a nice film, 7 Mar 2010
This review is from: April In Paris [1952] (DVD)
This is a nice film, that's all. Nothing to mark it out as great but if you can get it at a budget price it is worth it. Try watching Lucky Me before it as an enjoyable evening's viewing. Interesting to see an older Bolger in suits not a scarecrow outfit.
Thoroughly recommended just to relax and enjoy.
