5.0 out of 5 stars Apprenticeships 3 April 2012
A very thorough and informative book which has been invaluable in helping me understand the whole area of apprenticeships. The book is well structured and develops in a clear and logical way, with very helpful appendices and case studies. Every step is explained in detail and using straightforward terms. I particularly like the fact that other alternatives to apprenticeships are considered. It has made it much easier to talk to my son about the options available to him. Often as parents it feels like we are left out of the careers process but this book gives me the information and understanding to assist my son in this crucial stage of his life. I didn't realise there were so many different paths available.
The book is now proving useful to the Head of Key Stage 4 at the school I work at. The web pages and up-to-date references and adresses are really helpful and there is so much practical advice, particularly regarding writing CVs and preparing for interviews.

This guide to appenticeships is an invaluable and accessible overview of the subject and I would recommend it to any student or parent searching for straightforward, comprehensive advice. As a teacher in a secondary school, who is involved in careers and guidance, this is essential reading and an excellent reference book for all those looking for impartial information.

Apprenticeships are becoming more popular in an ever changing job market and this book is a must for any school careers' library.

4.0 out of 5 stars Review of Apprenticeships 25 Mar 2012
I found this to be a very well written book which is sensibly laid out. The language used is friendly and easy to understand and I will be recommending it to several people I know. This book is particularly relevant, if not invaluable in the present climate where going to university seems to have become too expensive an option for many young people. There is plenty of good advice, support, guidance and information for all ages, however, including older job seekers, with case studies throughout. The book will guide you through the application process, from the C.V to the interview and provides information on funding, your rights and it tells you who the major national and regional learning providers are. Apprenticeships clearly explains all the options available and should give students, their parents and job seekers the confidence and knowledge to go forward in their chosen career path.

I wish this book was available when I was a school leaver. Later I may well be referring to it to help my own children.
