I have a late 2013 Mac Mini, that came with the original 500GB hard disk installed in the "top" position. Based on that I purchased this cable to fit an additional SSD into the "bottom" position.

Turns out it I should have done my research better, as even though the factory installed drive is in the top position, the installed hard disk was plugged into the SATA socket closest to the RAM, which this cable assumes you'll be using for the new hard disk you want to fit into the bottom position. All I cane assume is that Apple have changed the way they do things.

I got the thing to fit by some rather ugly deforming of the cable, but hopefully this information on cable positions will prevent someone else from having to stress about doing so! Please make sure to open up the machine and make sure you know which socket you're able to use if using this to install an additional hard disk before purchasing!

That aside, everything's working so the cable is certainly functional enough and if the SATA socket it's intended for was actually free, it would have been a completely perfect fit. I didn't have any need to use the additional tools and screws that came with it, which reinforces my suspicion that Apple have changed the way the install the factory drive.

Amazon tells me I shouldn't mention about the seller, but this is something I feel that deserves to be mentioned. Apart from the pack of the cable and bolts, the seller also managed to pack in a small thank you note with a Chinese pendent. Sigh, if only every seller was like this! It makes a huge positive difference and also made me very thankful and happy.

Now, to the product. The product is exactly specified. So, why should you purchase this instead of the OCW kit that sells for $49? First of all, understand that this is the same as the OCW kit, except that the OCW kit is made for 'top-loaded' hard drives. What is top-loaded? Well, the new mac mini ships in two configurations - Top loaded HDD and bottom loaded HDD. There is a plastic tray where you can fit in the HDD either on the top or the bottom (the tray can accommodate two HDDs). The default configuration will determine which cable you will need. For me it was a bottom loaded config. and I unknowingly purchased the falsely promised OCW kit which is meant for top-loaded drives. They have different part numbers too. (One of them has: 922-9560, 076-1412, 076-1390 and the other has 076-1360, 076-1413, 076-1391). Sigh, if only I had known this earlier! The wrong cable will NOT fit into the tray no matter what you do, so be sure to buy the right one.

I added an extra SSD to my 2012 (late) Mac mini and it works flawlessly. If you haven't upgraded yours yet, you should do so right away. The difference is enormous - Startup speeds went down from 42 seconds to just 8 seconds (not an exaggeration)!

Cheers,
NRK

As another review states - open your mini mac up first before ordering! I have a late 2012 mini and the original hard drive sits in the UPPER most bay and connects to the motherboard on the hard disk connector CLOSEST to the RAM.
The connector being sold here is designed to fit THE SAME hard disk connector on the motherboard (closest to the RAM). It is therefore too long and needs some bending if you want to use it to connect to the spare hard disk connector on the motherboard FURTHEST from the RAM.

The bending can be done but may explain the disk read errors I get. It was worth a go at this price and on reading the reviews but looks like I need to find a new correctly sized cable...

Great product. Arrived ahead of time. Comes with all tools needed for installation, including screwdrivers which were not shown in the photo. No instructions, but very easy to find online.
Used this to install an additional 2.5 inch hard drive into my Mid 2011 mac mini. This cable is for connecting a hard drive in the "top" position (i.e. close to the top of the aluminium case when assembled and sitting upright, or right underneath the Apple if that makes more sense), and it plugs in to the logic board socket closest to the RAM. Worth opening the case ahead of ordering to check that it will suit your machine. Took about 30 minutes to do the job.
Seems to be working great.

The kit has all you need to install second drive to your mac mini. The reason for taking one star out, is that in order to have the drive working in SATA III mode, you need to wrap the SATA cable in tin foil. Although I there is no tin foil in the package it is not that big of a deal, since it is rather cheap and every cooking household has tons of it, I'd definitely could've saved myself the trouble of dismantling the mac twice if I knew this when I started the whole procedure.

Arrived quickly and works just as it should. Also came with allen key shaped tools for needed for the job.

It might seem strange to mark it down for having extra items, but they aren't listed in the items details or in the pictures, which meant I had purchased a set of screwdrivers to do the job on top of these. Could have saved some money if full details were listed
