Edited again Dec 2011
Just an additional way of playing that we have found absolutely brilliant. When only 4 of us were playing recently, we decided to put an extra red card into the pile, so the 'chooser' had 4 cards to choose from (I know that should read 'from which to choose'). We called the card 'Random'. It is absolutely hilarious when Random's card is chosen over the offerings from the other players. Everyone looks at each other to see who wins and realises it is 'Random'. Out of 3 games played recently, 'Random' has come second!!!
Edited again April 2011. There is now a new British version - the US one is apparently not sold in the UK now. It has more cards, so is even better. You can tell the British one by the address on the back which says 'Mattel UK ltd, Maidenhead'
Contents - Rules, Lots of Cards - red and green, and Card Holders.
Players are dealt several red 'noun' cards each. I have just randomly dealt 7 (number depends on how many are playing), they are: Wimbledon, My Neighbourhood, My Dreams, Bell Bottoms, Deep Fried Mars Bars, VW Beetles and Peter Kay. One player turns over ONE green 'adjective' card - eg (randomly picked again) Hopeless, Magical, Eccentric, Outrageous.
All each player has to do is choose the card from their hand that they think most fits the description and place it face down.(To avoid embarrassment for someone who might not be quite sure what a word means, there are several definitions given at the bottom of each card.)
The person who turned the card over then shuffles the face down cards and turns them over one by one and decides which offering they feel fits the green card best.
The one whose card is chosen keeps the green card and the game moves round with the next person turning over the green card and everyone getting another red card so they always have a full hand. The winner is the first one to win a predetermined number of green cards.
Players are allowed to heckle and try to sway the choice, but it is down to the 'chooser'.
Very easy to pick up, very easy to play; absolutely hilarious - especially when you don't have any card that remotely goes with the description - and even contentious at times (Choosing 'Anne Frank' for the 'knackered' card is still mentioned with outrage every time the game is brought out here, but the 'culprit' still defends their choice!)
Variations are possible - you can play it backwards ie deal out the adjectives and turn up a noun, but it's not as funny (in our humble opinion!).
Everyone gets a turn, everyone has a chance - there are no tactics other than maybe second-guessing what the dealer might pick.
*** FINALLY - BUT VERY IMPORTANTLY *** - unless you know the USA very well, you might wish to make sure you get the British Edition, as if you get the U.S. one, a lot of the nouns may be rather meaningless. However, see edit at the top.
