Manufacturer's Description

New Apple iPod NanoRockalicious.
Colour isn't the only brilliant new iPod Nano feature. For those about to rock, we give you nine amazing colours. But that’s only part of the story. Feel the curved, all-aluminum and glass design and you won’t want to put iPod nano down. The accelerometer comes to iPod nano. Give it a shake to shuffle your music. Turn it sideways to view Cover Flow. And play games designed with your moves in mind. The new Genius feature turns iPod nano into your own highly intelligent, personal DJ. It creates playlists by finding songs in your library that go great together.

iPod Nano with Genius functionality

A musical Genius.

Say you’re listening to a song you really like and want to hear other tracks that go great with it. The Genius feature finds the songs in your music library that go great together and makes a Genius Playlist for you. It’s like having your own highly intelligent, personal DJ.

Shake to shuffle songs

Shake your groove thing.

Sometimes, we could all use a little unpredictability. And now you can shake to shuffle your music. Just give iPod nano a shake and it shuffles to a different song in your music library. You’ll always be surprised by what you’ll hear.

tilt or turn iPod Nano

Rock and roll over.

Tilt or turn iPod nano on its side, and you’ll listen, watch, and play in new ways. You can flip through your album art with Cover Flow. Or, vertically speaking, see more albums and artists on the screen at one time.

New games made for the new nano

Let the games begin.

Now you can get in on games made especially for iPod nano and the accelerometer. They respond to the way you move, so they’re immersive, addictive, and a blast. iPod nano comes with Maze, which lets you work your way through vast mazes by tilting and moving. You can find even more games on the iTunes Store.

Photos look great on the nano

Even your photos rock.

Pull hundreds of photos from your pocket and share them wherever you go. Hold iPod nano upright and see your photos in portrait view. Turn it on its side to see them in landscape. Your photos look beautiful in their proper aspect ratio on the vibrant, 320-by-240-resolution display

Watch films

World’s biggest small screen.

Watching movies, TV shows, and videos is big fun on iPod nano. And the high-resolution picture looks crisp and vivid on the 2-inch widescreen display. So you can always have a little video with you.

It’s even easier to find the song you want to hear. Now you can view your album art in Cover Flow. Or just press and hold the Center button to browse by album or artist. When you find the right song, press the Center button to add it to your on-the-go playlist.

It's a real shame Apple have let themselves and their customers down with the accessories issue (90% of pre-June 2008 accessories, particularly chargers don't work with new Touch and Nano models).

Still, as an item of design and functionality there can be no debate that Apple have created the best iPod Nano yet. Everything works smoother than on the previous model and the larger screen really does make a difference.

It's also a lot lighter than its predecessor and includes a marginally longer battery life. Bear in mind however that only a USB charger is included, not a power lead... read paragraph one again if you're not sure how much of an issue this is (it's another £30 for an official dock).

BUT like I say this is a lovely piece of kit that especially rewards those with a well kept iTunes library with coverflow once again looking fantastic.

This nano has had some vast improvements from the first generation all those years back. The screen has enlarged, and is very good. The colours and clarity is exceptional for something this small. It is a lot thinner, less than 1cm, and has a nice curved shape. It has a new feature not before seen on the nano, let alone any ipod, and this is a shaking the ipod to change track. The genius software is very good and I find very useful and selects suitable matches for my music library. Also, new with this generation is the accelerometer built in. This allows you to turn the ipod on its side to watch video. The price is very good, but is still expensive for its capacity. However, this is made up for in superb free software that is very easy to use and master. Also, this is by far, the most accessory orrientated MP3/4 player. However saying this; some of the new generation ipods including this one don't work on old docking stations. You may want to be aware of this if you intend to use old accesories.

It looks lovely, the packaging is very efficient which I appreciate. The operation is easy; my parents are using it and they're both over 50! The screen is great and is very clever (if you lean the iPod to the left in Cover Flow the screen reacts and tilts with you!- very cool indeed) The size is ideal, though I'd recommend a nice cover to keep it safe and clean. The battery is ok, but not great- depends how often and how loud you use it really. The quality of sound is as ever on iPods REALLY GOOD. It's relatively not cheap, but 8 Gig is loads of space for anyone. A great first-timer and highly recommended to anyone!

I find the Nano-Chromatic model to be the best of the ipods yet. It looks sleek and settles in your hand perfectly. The tilt sensors are implemented very well in the use of the album selector and even the games! I'm really pleased with mine and I praise Apple for creating the best music player there is.

Chances are, if you're looking to buy an iPod then you are probably wanting to listen to your music while you're out and about. Luckily, the most recent iPod nano is perfect for that!

Being an 8GB nano, it has little memory compared to the likes of the iPod Classic and Touch, but it's filled with other features which make up for that.

One of the best things about the Nano is it's size. Measuring 3.75x9cm with a 3.3x4.5cm screen, it's small enough to fit in your pocket without feeling uncomfortable.

Soundwise, the quality obviously depends on which headphones you are using, but the white apple headphones that ship with the product are perfect (apart from when you are listening to music full blast; everyone within a 5 metre radius will be able to listen to your music with you!)

This nano also features motion sensors, meaning if you want to shuffle your songs, simply give the ipod a shake in your hand. There are also a number of games on the nano, including 'Klondike' and 'Vortex' which both require you to tilt the device to play.

As with all previous iPod's, there's the standard scroll wheel, as well as other extras including stopwatch, world clock etc. You can also play video clips.

All in all, this is a very good product and certainly looks the best in blue!

I've never been a fan of Ipods (always preferred other brands), mainly due to their reliance on Itunes and lack of FM radio.

I purchased the Nano as a gift for my girlfriend and not only was she very pleased, I was very impressed too. The sound quality is excellent, and its usability and interface were first rate. Its slim design and colour make it very stylish - I'd even consider buying one for myself.

I have been thinking about buying an MP3 player for ages and have read many reviews saying that Apple's iPods gave the best sound, so bit the bullet at last and bought the Nano 8GB. I also bought a protective rubber shroud for it which included a lanyard, plus a screen protector which seems sensible given the cost of this tiny box! Using iTunes, I was pleased to see how easy it is to load on music from CDs and then sync it with the iPod. The circular touch control is straightforward and responsive to use and battery life seems very good so far.
Although I love the way it looks, the main concern for me was how it would sound and I have not been disappointed. In fact, I am still amazed at how such a tiny device can produce such a big, clear, involving sound with oodles of detailed, tuneful bass. However, to reveal its true sonic qualities, you do have to swap the supplied ear phones for a better pair. I chose the Sennheiser CX300 ll from Amazon (reviewed elsewhere) and have been well pleased. I like the way the screen orientation shifts as you turn the iPod 90 degrees, plus the menus are extensive but simple to use. The maximum volume varies from album to album, but although it is punchy, it's good to see that in the interests of hearing protection, it is reasonably restrained.
Now I just have to work out how to put on some podcasts and I will be a totally happy bunny!
