Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Everything you love about iPod just got tinier. iPod mini lets you bring along enough music for a three-day weekend getaway in a package so small you'll forget you're carrying it. Until people ask you about it, that is.Weighing in at just 3.6 ounces and showing off in three new shades, iPod mini fits your lifestyle and your bag, whether it be cocktail purse or messenger duffle. The chic, matte anodized aluminum case resists stains and scratches, all the while protecting your iPod mini - from, say, the jostle of overzealous paparazzi. Recessed in the case to keep its surface pristine, the 1.67-inch (diagonal) backlit screen displays full song and album titles, artists' names and more. And iPod mini lasts up to 18 hours on a single charge: enough for a transatlantic flight, the limo ride to your hotel and a few solid hours of boutique shopping. Of course, iPod mini works just as well for your everyday pursuits. With up to 25 minutes of skip protection, you can even walk the dog in style.Always striving for perfection, Apple engineers moved the iPod's buttons under the wheel. The iPod mini Click Wheel - complete with color-coordinated icons - takes best advantage of miniscule space and lets you scroll single-handedly through up to 1,500 songs from your iTunes music collection. You'll find such thoughtful construction only from Apple. Because, try as they might, the competition can't touch this.

I think this is great. I got the 6GB version in blue. I already own the iriver h320 and this is so much simpler to use. I came very close to buying the creative zen micro but decided to go for this instead. Sound quality is good and the battery life is a lot better than i was expecting. I only charge it about once a week and thats with me constantly stopping and starting songs and skipping through. I have had no problems with crackling at all as mentioned in earlier reviews. Itunes is simple to use too. I would definatly recommened it.

Having found myself wanting an MP3 player, I did what you're supposed to do...that is, check out the products. There is a dizzying amount of players out there on the market but obviousely, the Ipod stands formost. I checked out within my price range & narrowed it down to two - the Ipod Mini & the Creative Zen Micro. All of the available evidence was for the Ipod but the Micro had extra features. I bought them both!! In comparison - sound quality is equally good. Looks - the Ipod pips the Zen to the post. User-friendliness - Ipod has a slight advantage. Drive size - Zen with 5 Gig as compared to Ipod's 4 Gig. Stuff in the box - Zen with some things as standard that you have to buy with Ipod. My main gripe with the Ipod is the incompatability of Itunes with Windows Media Player. I suppose an Ipod afficianado wouldn't be bothered but I found it inconvenient. I also found that whenever I bought a book on MP3s or music downloading, I seemed to be getting Ipod advertisments! Ipod is great but not that great and in it's attempt to corner the market it has made itself into a cult item. Consequently you end up paying for the name and then extra for accessories. To cut a long story short - I relunctantly sold my Ipod & kept the Zen Micro. A bigger drive and extra accessories along with a more flexible web interface made it a better value for money product. (I do miss the stylish looks of the Ipod though).

Top of the bunch 6 April 2005
I have owned a few mp3 player over the last couple of years and was at first a little sceptical about the ipod. I know a few of the reviews here moan about them but i can't see why.

Firstly let me start by saying this is a quality piece of kit. The build quality is second to none. My previous mp3 player was a creative zen but even this is not up to the ipods standard. You can tell that apple has spent it's time on the design.

When you get the player powered up the menus are straight forward and even though a good manual is provided you won't really need it. The ipod makes finding your songs pretty straight forward. Ipod also has many little extras such as calendar and alarm clock. Ok you may not use them but they are there just in case.

When it comes to music quality the ipod is top notch. I am very picky about my music sounding good and the ipod delivers just fine. The supplied headphones are really good too. Unlike other players i have owned.

The ipod uses the supplied itunes software to create and manage your music collection. I used to be a user of windows media player but after using itunes i have realised how inferior media player is. Itunes has all the features of media player and many more little extras. It is also very easy to use. One cool feature is the music download shop. This gives you the ability to download tracks for only 78p. The collection on the shop is huge. When you use itunes chances are you will never use another media player again.

Let me just finish by saying that this is the best player i have owned by far. Anyone who is still undecided don't hesitate. This is a wicked piece of kit in every way.
