Manufacturer's Description

New Apple iPod Classic

Hold Everything

Decisions, decisions. Who needs ’em? Why should you have to choose what to put on your iPod? With up to 160GB of storage, iPod classic lets you carry everything in your collection — up to 40,000 songs or up to 200 hours of video — everywhere you go. In a completely new, even thinner, all-metal design, this iPod is a modern classic.

New Apple iPod ClassicOverview

With 80GB or 160GB of storage(1), iPod classic gives your music and video room to move. It also has plenty of energy (up to 40 hours of audio playback 2), good looks (a sleek, all-metal design), and a great personality (a brand-new interface with Cover Flow). In other words, iPod classic makes an ideal companion. Why not get to know it better?

New Apple iPod ClassicCover Flow

If a picture says a thousand words, think of what all the album art in your collection might say. With Cover Flow on iPod classic, you can flip through your music to find the album you want to hear. Use the Click Wheel to browse music by album cover, then select an album to flip it over and see the track list.

New Apple iPod ClassicMusic

Use the Click Wheel to adjust volume, navigate songs, browse in Cover Flow, or explore the Music menu by playlist, artist, album, song, genre, composer, and more. Want to mix things up? Click Shuffle Songs. iPod classic makes your music look as good as it sounds, thanks to its big, bright, colour display.

New Apple iPod ClassicMovies

Buy movies from the iTunes Store and you can sync them to your iPod classic to watch anywhere, anytime. The gorgeous 2.5-inch display makes your movies pop. And iPod classic keeps you entertained for up to 7 hours. Long flight or darkened room? Adjust the brightness for even more video playback time.

New Apple iPod ClassicTV Shows

There’s always something good on iPod classic. Browse thousands of episodes of your favorite TV shows on the iTunes Store then sync them to iPod classic. Watch last night’s episodes this morning, or buy a whole TV series and play a pocket-size marathon.

New Apple iPod ClassicPodcasts

The iTunes Store features thousands of free video and audio podcasts, including indie favorites and offerings from such big names as ABC News, Comedy Central, ESPN, PBS, NPR, and many more. Browse and subscribe to podcasts, then sync them to your iPod classic. You can even play video podcasts on TV using an optional Apple component or composite AV cable.

New Apple iPod ClassicAudiobooks

The digital shelves of the iTunes Store are stocked with thousands of audiobooks — including exclusives like the entire Harry Potter series — so you can catch up on your reading wherever iPod classic takes you. iPod classic recognizes where you left off and bookmarks your place. You can even adjust the reading speed to suit you.

New Apple iPod ClassicGames

Put hours of fun at your fingertips. iPod classic comes with three games — Vortex, iQuiz, and Klondike — and you can download more from the iTunes. All iPod games are designed specifically for the iPod interface. And all of them look great on the 2.5-inch colour display.

New Apple iPod ClassicPhotos

iPod classic holds up to 25,000 photos you can sync from your Mac or PC via iTunes. Use the Click Wheel to scroll through photo thumbnails the same way you scroll through song titles. To see a photo full screen, click the center button. You can even view photo slideshows — complete with music and transitions — on iPod classic or on a TV using an optional Apple component or composite AV cable.

New Apple iPod ClassicSearch

With up to 40,000 songs1 on your iPod classic, you need an easy way to search your collection. A built-in search function lets you use the Click Wheel to type out the name of the song, artist, album, audiobook, or podcast you’re looking for. iPod classic returns results instantly as you select letters.

New Apple iPod ClassicExtras

Calendars, contacts, and a clock appear in the Extras menu, along with a few more handy items. Take the screen lock, for example. Spin the Click Wheel to choose a four-digit combination and protect your iPod classic from prying eyes. If you forget your combination, just reset when you sync. Or use the built-in stopwatch to log your best times.

1. 1GB = 1 billion bytes; actual formatted capacity less.

2. Testing conducted by Apple in August 2007 using preproduction hardware and software. Rechargeable batteries have a limited number of charge cycles and may eventually need to be replaced. Battery life and number of charge cycles vary by use and settings.

i bought my first ipod in july 2004, 20gb classic, and it was great, no problems with it. just before christmas (2007) it was lasting for around 3 hours, the battery had seen better days, so i started to look at a new ipod. all the bad reviews on here kept putting me off, but i decided to buy one 3 weeks ago, as my other was now down to 2 hours and was definitely needing replaced.

i've no idea why i waited, no idea why i took these bad reviews into account, because the 80gb classic is GREAT!

i've had it for 2 weeks now, it was updated with songs the first day i got it, took around 20 minutes to get the thousands of songs on it, and since then it's only been updated another once, lasting about 2 minutes. i DIDN'T charge it when i got it, as the battery was full, so the battery has lasted THAT long!
i had to charge it last night, as it was down to a red bar, so it wasn't fully dead. i use it for 3/4 hours per day, sometimes longer, so i'm very impressed that i got 2 weeks worth out of one charge. even my other one didn't last that long!!

i also like the colour screen, my other doesn't have that. it's crisp and clean and looks a lot better.
not had problems with cover flow either, it works fine.

also not had any problems with the volume. it's clearly audible on the lowest setting, and on highest i nearly blew my eardrums.
also noticed there is a volume limit in the settings, is this maybe why so many people have problems with low volume?!?
i'm also not using the apple ipod earphones, i'm using phillips.

also liking the case colour. i thought it might have been a 'shiny' case like the psp and ds lite's, but it's nothing like that, it's a 'matt' case. fingerprints don't show up on it, although they obviously do on the back, but this happens with my other ipod, too. easily wiped off though.

so yes, all in all, i'm very impressed with my new ipod and kicking myself for taking these bad reviews into account, because for me, they're not justified.
it's also well worth the money, my first cost £220 at the time, and it was 20gb.

I am on my second ipod, and yes they sound great if you use a high bit rate or lossless quality setting, however the more music i put on my ipod the more likely it is to crash, My ipod has crashed and i have had to put on all 8000 songs again, and that is very time consuming! Also the headphones that come with the ipod are terrible, they are very tinny lack any clarity especially in the bass frequencies. I think apple should pair up with another company such as shure to produce their headphones, which would compliment the great sound you can get from this little machine.
I would strongly recommend any apple products, i have a macbook pro and an imac and they are great! the ipod is in my opinion the best music player on the market at its price range, the only thing that beats it is the bang and olufsen mp3 player for sound quality, but for a whole package the ipod wins, it is easy to use hs lots of features, you can store loads of music and it sounds great, but if you are using it with headphones and you love music invest in some good headphones, sony's MDR EX90LP are a great pair of single drive headphones for the price you can get them for around £40, but if you are feeling extravagant and have the money get some shure headphone the SE530s are great as are the e5c's but they cost more than the ipod, but truly bring your music clarity to life. Hope this helps

Too Quiet 4 Jan 2008
By Dave
Pros:
1. It looks nice.
2. It's cheap.
3. It has a large memory.
4. It plays mp3s.
5. They finally sorted out the battery.

Cons:
1. Its the quietest mp3 player in the World and no programs to unlock it. gopod, eupod, none of them work. You cannot hear the iPod on the train or near a road. The worse thing is plugging them into speakers, it makes the most feable noice that is barely audible over a whisper.
2. The sound is VERY noticeably distorted even on the very low volumes because of this new sound chip.
3. iTunes is a pile of rubbish, as soon as you plug your iPod in, it takes 2 minutes to recognise it and iTunes and your iPod become unuable during this process. The transfer rates are great when you are transferring large amounts. 40GB took less than 2 hours. But, when you want to transfer one album (50mb), it will take 5-10 mins from plugging iPod in until when it allows you to disconnect it.

Summary:
Dont buy one. If you are keen enough to read the reviews, take my word on it, until they sort the volume problem out, its a waste of money.
