This is a great keyboard but not so great design... Maybe it's just me but I find it excessively fiddly to connect the iPad 2 to it, the tapered sides resisting any attempts to easily slide it into place, causing concern that my uncoordinated fumblings are leading to scratches on the lovely body of my beautiful tablet.
Not what you would expect from an Apple product.
Nor is the insecure feeling of the lock of the dock, with the iPad wobbling somewhat alarmingly from side to side, rather than fitting tightly as I was expecting.
That said, this is a fantastic feeling keyboard - just the right amount of resistance on the keys, sleek, industrial lines and a fabulous design. The iPad specific buttons are also bordering on genius. So much so that I really struggle to go back to using my laptop after a session with this, inevitably finding myself jabbing the non-touch screen with my finger and wondering why nothing is happening.
A glimpse of the future of computing no doubt - detachable touch screens are here to stay - but for once Apple have missed the mark a little in terms of the functionality of the design. Don't regret the purchase though, and like I said in the title, essential - especially if you are prone to break into prose while using the iPad.
Love it and worry about it in equal measure. I will be first in the queue for the next revision I imagine.
