Product Description
The Apple Mini-DVI to VGA Adapter is designed for use with the iMac (Intel Core Duo), MacBook, and 12-inch PowerBook G4. Connect the adapter to the Mini-DVI port of the computer and the VGA end of the adapter to an external VGA monitor or projector.
You can use this cable in both video mirroring and extended desktop modes.
It doesn't fit MacBook Aluminum (late 2008 unibody) which equipped with mini Displayport rather than mini DVI.

Bought this as a much cheaper alternative to the £16 cables on the Apple store. Not sure if it's a genuine Apple product, but in all honesty it does exactly the same job and looks the same, matching the aesthetic of a white MacBook. Currently writing this on a desktop of 1280x800 (MacBook display) plus 1920x1080 on my monitor. Excellent colour, crisp image, no interference.
While I wouldn't normally comment on the seller, I think it's needed given the other 1 star review for this product. I received this item 3 days after ordering, which was 2 days before the earliest estimate. While the other reviewer clearly had a bad experience with the seller, he also did not take any action to rectify the situation. Basically, don't be concerned about ordering due to one person's ignorant review.

I'm writing only to save someone else a hassle - the seller has not really done anything wrong here, but I wish they had been clearer that this adapter will NOT work for the Mac Air. Apple has created a bit of confusion by calling the output port on the Air a mini-DVI (at least on the first Air - it's now called Thunderbolt). I now know (at the price of £4.95 - not the end of the world) that MacBooks and Airs have different video output specs. No need to blow me up in the comments, I recognise it is my mistake - I'm really just writing this review to save someone else a similar problem. Cheers to the seller for offering low-cost alternatives for proprietary high-priced Apple stuff.

It appears to be a genuine Mac item. I received it within two days of purchase and it has been performing, as described, without any faults on my black 2.2GHz Intel MacBook connected on a standard flat screen computer monitor. I am very happy with the adapter.
