I chose this adapter over its DVI brother as I wasn't sure if my external monitor supported DVI-D. The large end of the cable plugs into the VGA cable coming from your monitor - it's essentially an extension cable. Once connected the Mac recognises it straight away. Uncheck 'mirror image' and drag the open windows onto the external monitor for best performance. You can also choose where you want the menu bar and dock, either on Mac display or external monitor, regardless of where you have your open windows. All in all a great product.

A small little adapter that does what it's meant to. Not very exciting but then leads generaly aren't! Still it was half the price of the Apple site which was a good thing!

Apple keep changing the outputs on different models and I made an expensive mistake with this one! Mini DVI is different to mini video out (late model Macbook Pros etc). Check and check again, and do the same for Firewire leads !

Bought wrong adapter, but product OK
Product looks OK, although I've not tested it as like others I got confused over the Apple outputs on my late MacBook.
