if you have a broken ipod screen and have never replaced an ipod screen before, this is the item you need - a pre-assembled digitizer (glass) and bezel (aka mid-section).
Yes, you can buy just a screen (for about half the price) and separate the old mid-section from the broken screen, BUT (1) its very difficult to do without breaking the old mid-section (2) it might be already broken anyway (3) transferring the old "home" button & its electronics is a pain and (4) life's too short - using this pre-assembly its a relatively easy job of about an hour.
Don't worry about tools - buy a guitar plectrum (~70p) - it makes a great tool for getting the old screen out and easing the new screen in without risk of scratching or damaging the glass or ipod, and for unplugging the old touch-screen connector. That, and a really small flat-blade screw driver, should be all you need.
WARNING - be really careful when attaching the touch-screen connector, its *REALLY* easy to flex the cable too much and break one of the wires inside - I did this - then the new touch-screen don't work and you're back to square-1. I found the back-end of a paper clip ideal for pressing the new connector in place.
Item arrived in 2 days and as described, my son's ipod now (from the front) looks like new. It could have been packaged a big better - it arrived in a cardboard envelope with no padding, which I thought was a little feeble for a thin piece of glass, but the item arrived undamaged, so full marks anyway.
