No, only the other way around. That is because thunderbolt is built into the logo board, older logic boards can't run thunderbolt because there is no thunderbolt chipset on the Intel logic board and cannot be added either; older architecture.

I find that mine works at FW800 speeds, no more, no less - the FW bus is now the bottleneck.
Is this hot-swappable between an external hard drive and a macbookpro, or will it burn out the firewire port (like the camera that someone mentioned)? 9 Sep 2014
I currently use mine to connect a Drobo to my iMac. Does what it says gives me good data transfer rates as the iMac does nor have a firewire port.
Is anyone using this with a Thunderbolt connector on a Windows 8 pc/laptop? I have the Asus G750JX and I want to connect a video camera via firewire. 25 Apr 2014
I'm afraid I was attaching a Macbook Pro using this setup which works perfectly. Whether a Windows 8 laptop would work, I am unable to say. Sorry!
