This iPad Mini is the most recent model, and it's an incredibly beautiful device. The iPad comes in several sizes (and prices) now:-

1. iPad Mini (with standard display)
2. iPad Mini with Retina Display - This one. The latest fastest Mini size iPad with an HD display.
3. iPad 2, 3 or 4th Generation - Full size iPads
4. iPad Air - The latest fastest full size iPad.

Oddly enough, it's so beautifully easy to use (my one year old daughter loves playing with it), it's almost doesn't feel like a computer at all. I bought one for my 10 year old daughter and she absolutely loves it. We sold the previous Android tablet as it just sat in a drawer not being used.

A word of warning - this review is written for people who've never owned an iPad before - and are wondering what all the fuss is about. Don't read this if you already own an iPad or Mini and are thinking about an upgrade - I'd recommend you simply buy a mini with Retina or an iPad Air.

Just what's all the fuss about?
--------------------------------------

I used to own a laptop for work, and (very occasionally), it'd sit on my lap on the sofa, and I'd use it for pleasure (eMail, watching films or playing the odd game). Then I bought my first iPad, and the laptop became redundant, a boring "work device". Hard to explain, but the fact the iPad is so small and light, and you navigate around with your finger by pointing and gently swiping the screen makes the whole experience a lot easier - a lot more fun.

Even my most "luddite" of friends have been won over.

It's incredibly simple and easy to use (it only has one main button), and everyone from my one year old daughter to my 85 year old dad have taken to without problems.

I am no Apple iOS diehard fan. In fact I have several android and windows tablets. Yet there's no denying that the iPad has revolutionised the computer industry by triggering the tablet era.

The iPad mini is just a smaller version of the iPad Air, and as such sports the same processor and options offered on its bigger brother.

------------------------------------------------------------
Now does the iPad Mini really live up to the marketing hype?

A quick answer is "Yes", thanks to new zippy 64 bit A7 processor, lovely "Retina display" screen and portability!
And what makes this the best tablet to date are the apps, which have been optimized to take full advantage of the powerful 64bit processor. As an example: If you have a 64bit operating system but 32bit software than the performance increase is negligible.

Apps written for iOS are generally of a very high standard and virtually virus free. There are various reasons for this:
○ iPad is also targeted for professional environments
○ Stable and reliable iOS platform
○ Applications are only available through the App Store.
○ Other platforms have new tablets springing every other day, sporting different screen sizes and processors.

Pros:
✓ Blazing fast, low consumption A7 (64bit) processor
✓ Premium build quality sporting ever so stylish looks thanks to the precision engineered aluminium housing
✓ Retina display. Great colour saturation producing stunning images
✓ Super lightweight, WiFi version 331grams and WiFi+Cellular version 341grams
✓ Vast choice of apps which can mimic laptop/desktop programs
✓ Awesome battery life thanks to the new low consumption A7 processor.

I've got an IPAD 1 and an Iphone 4s, so this isn't a new gadget as such, but I've not been able to put it down since buying it. The retina screen is amazing, it's so much lighter than my cumbersome Ipad 1 and I take it with me everywhere.

The price on this seemed to good to be true and that is exactly how it turned out. The iPad never arrived in spite of emails from Amazon. Whilst the customer service was good, it turned into a real hassle to get the payment refunded. In the end I bought one at John Lewis, which has a 2 year warranty. Also checked with an Apple beta tester who said that the ipad that never arrived was not the latest one, hence the price, so probably a lucky escape.

For a long time I considered if i really needed an iPad, but in the end I bit the bullet, and i'm very glad that I did. More recent features on it such as 'Pages' has proven invaluable. As a freelancer I can now edit and send documents/ invoices on the go. The iPad is clear to read from with the excellent display which is great when I have to do sight reading. I considered the iPad air but went with the mini for portability and due to its excellent screen it hasn't proven a hinderance to the experience. There will always be a toss up between the needs of each individual but for me the mini is absolutely ideal.

Right... Apple = amazing. This iPad... Well... I had my doubts, it is effectivley an iPad mini with no VAT on it, it seemed a miracle and yet, when it arrived and (you must look on the back to see what's included) you see the words "iPad mini with reina display" its fast, thanks to the A7 ARM processor that has a 64bit ARCHITECTURE (some people say this is impossible for an ARM processor, that word defines it). The M7 co-processor deals with motion ie gyroscopes and accelerometers. Best of all, it really does have a 10 hour battery life, it lasted near a whole day of intensive use at first (well about 8-9 hours) without a charge, it was straight out of the box, wifi on. Its light as hell, it feels more balanced (weight) by far compared to my iPod 4th gen, its tough, tougher than it looks and you would think and... I'm just under 6ft and it fits nicely in my trouser pocket (jeans I should say). I don't think I'm gonna be afraid to take this out, I would though recommend a case and/or a screen protector, fingerprint nightmare, touch it, a massive mark on the screen, after swiping and playing a bit of infinity blade, the screen is engrosed in a layer of smudge. Its not very olephobic, guess its cured. I would not recommend the first iPad mini as it will be soon outdated and it is unnderpowered for an iPad, it uses the same ARM processor as the iPod touch 5th gen, it will still run smoothly, not like the iPhone 4 with ios 7, but will soon be left, Apple might leave it behind after ios 8 (released in August) who knows, it is unlikely, but if they don't, then ios 9 or whatever they decide to call it will most likey not support it. It is great, don't think the screen is small, you try it in the Apple store and it feels sort of insignificant, but when its yours... Well.Read more ›
