Product Description

"Susan Wiggs paints the details of human relationships with the finesse of a master."--Jodi Picoult “Wiggs, a consummate storyteller, has few equals when it comes to evoking deep emotion in readers. Richly detailed and textured, the characters are superb. But it's her observations about our modern lives and times that really stand out.”--RT Book Reviews on Lakeside Cottage "Wiggs is one of our best observers of stories of the heart. She knows how to capture emotion on virtually every page of every book."-Salem Statesman-Journal “Rich with life lessons, nod-along moments and characters with whom readers can easily relate. Delightful and wise, Wiggs’s latest shines.— Publishers Weekly on Dockside "With the ease of a master, Wiggs introduces complicated, flesh-and-blood characters into her idyllic but identifiable small-town setting...." --Publishers Weekly starred review on The Winter Lodge "Wiggs explores many aspects of grief, from guilt to anger to regret, imbuing her book with the classic would've/could've/should've emotions...another excellent title to her already-outstanding body of work." --Booklist starred review, on Table for Five

More About the Author

I like to believe I am the person my dogs think I am.

I phone my parents every day, as they are elderly and adorable, and they read me stories every day of my freakishly normal childhood. I was a writer before I learned to read, by creating scribbles on paper and dictating the stories to my saintly mother. You can see examples here: https://plus.google.com/u/1/photos/104585203815605467940/albums/5587379107269629729?banner=pwa&partnerid=pwrd1.

Untold eons later, I still read and write everyday and I've gotten very good at it. I live in a ridiculously gorgeous place in the world--an island in Puget Sound, Washington where we have a lot of the same flowers you grow in the UK. But bigger slugs. Much bigger slugs.

I have lots more to tell you, so please join me on Facebook and check out pictures of my dogs and tell me what's on your mind. https://www.facebook.com/susanwiggs

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Book 27 May 2013
By Basement Cat VINE VOICE
Format:Hardcover
This book begins with a very intriguing chapter, which will get you completely hooked. Tessa works very hard for an antiques auction house, and is expecting to get a lucrative promotion. She sees this as a reward for all the hours that she has put in, but on the very day of her interview, she is taken ill with severe stress related symptoms and rushed to hospital. She also has a visit from someone with information about a family that she never knew she had. This is a book which takes place both in the present, and in Europe during the second world war. It's a lovely comforting story, set on a wonderful farm that I really wish was real, and with lots of food and a few recipes too. As Tess gradually relaxes and begins to recover, she learns what's really important in her life, and more especially, who. A great read that I really enjoyed, and was sorry to finish.

This is one of the nicest books I've read in a long time. It is well written, very descriptive and definitely gives you the feel good factor. The recipes introduced at the beginning of each section are tempting and I will in fact try them, no doubt with Isabel in my thoughts. Even now I have finished the book I just can't stop thinking about the characters and wish I could continue to be in their lives.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great for sending you to sleep 29 Dec 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really wanted to like this book. But it was so predictable. There were some supposed twists to the plot, but like a Bruce Forsyth's joke, you could see it coming a mile off! It was also way too long with repeated pages of the main characters angst, even though you could not fail to see what she would do. The other characters had very little background as did the historical parts of the book. Romantic predictable drivel. May possibly amuse a 16 year old.

Great book, with lots of history as well as being an interesting story. Probably more a women's read as a love story intertwined.
