Manufacturer's Description

Hear how you run

With Nike+ running shoes and a Nike + iPod Sport Kit or Sensor, your iPod nano, iPod touch, or iPhone 3GS will motivate you mile after mile.

Ready...
Grab your iPod nano, iPod touch, or iPhone 3GS, a pair of Nike+ shoes, and the Nike + iPod Sport Kit or Sensor. Put the sensor in your Nike+ shoe — there’s a built-in pocket specifically designed for it under the insole. Then connect the receiver to your iPod nano. iPod touch and iPhone 3GS include built-in support for Nike + iPod, so no receiver is necessary. The sensor tracks your run, then sends the data to your iPod.

Set...
Check out the Nike + iPod menu and choose how you want to run. You can use custom workout shortcuts to start your favorite workouts quickly. Try the open-ended workout or select one with time, distance, or calorie goals. Then pick your favorite playlist, shuffle songs, or choose Nike-created Sport Music. You can even program a Power Song to play when you need instant motivation.

Go
As you run, your iPod or iPhone 3GS tells you your time, distance, pace, and calories burned. And it gives you feedback at the halfway point and in the final lead-up to your goal. You can also see the details of your workout on your iPod or iPhone 3GS.

Sync
When your run is finished, connect your iPod nano, iPod touch, or iPhone 3GS to your Mac or PC, and your workout data automatically syncs to nikeplus.com. Go there and see all your runs and share motivation with runners across the world.

Connect
Cool down, sync up, and see how far you’ve come. Just as seamlessly as it syncs your music, your iPod nano, iPod touch, or iPhone 3GS also syncs your runs and workouts. Just connect your iPod or iPhone 3GS to your Mac or PC, and iTunes automatically sends your workout data to nikeplus.com. There you’ll see every run and every workout you’ve completed. You can track your progress, set goals, connect with other runners, and challenge friends. Or if you're using the new built-in Pedometer on iPod nano, sync it to your computer to keep track of your daily steps and help meet your fitness goals.

Compare
Nikeplus.com keeps stats on your every step. Its intuitive interface and great graphics make it easy to see and remember each run and each workout. You can analyze your performance, break your last record, and see how much further you want to go. Check your speed, distance, and calories burned — by run, by week, or by month.

Compete
Nikeplus.com keeps you connected with runners from every corner of the web. And that’s where the real race begins. Use nikeplus.com to challenge anyone, anywhere to a virtual race. Run on your own time, on your home turf, then log on to nikeplus.com and see the results.

Get in the Zone
Browse music, playlists, workouts, and podcasts made especially for Nike + iPod on iTunes and download all the push you need.
Motivation

The Nike Sport Music section features Nike-created workout mixes from top trainers and athletes. You’ll find workout routines developed for use with Nike + iPod. Whether it’s time or distance based, each routine offers coaching, motivation, and training tips over a continuous mix of music.

Inspiration
Sport iMixes are playlists selected by professional trainers and designed to motivate you through the most demanding workouts. You can even download playlists chosen and introduced by top athletes. If you need to visualize, watch video and audio podcasts featuring the most dynamic personalities in the sporting world.

How to Use the Nike + iPod Sport Kit

Step 1
Place the sensor in your left Nike+ shoe — in the built-in pocket beneath the insole. You can leave the sensor in your shoe even when you’re not working out.

Step 2
Attach the receiver (sold separately) to your iPod nano. It fits snugly into the dock connector, located on the bottom of iPod nano next to the headphone jack. iPod touch and iPhone 3GS have built-in Nike + iPod support, so no receiver is necessary.

Step 3
Hit the ground running with workout-based voice feedback, Nike Sport Music content, and your favorite playlists or songs that keep you pumping.

    By David
I had some initial headaches setting up the product as I was told by Apple that the iPod Nano Gen 5 did not require the full sensor kit so I bought the sensor and then had to replace it with the kit. Also, when installing the sensor in my nike running shoes, it seemed logical to place it with the Nike logo facing up - however if you do that, it is completely inaccurate (around 20% off). Once I discovered this and reversed the sensor to have the logo facing down, it worked perfectly and is accurate. Since then I have had it for around 8 months and covered over 800km and it is still working without any problems.
One other point is that when flying you are supposed to turn off the sensor by pressing the on/off button for a few seconds. The best way to turn it on again is to search for it on the iPod and at the same time press the sensor on/off button a few times until the iPod detects it.

Neat little product 8 Oct 2010
Interacts well with my iphone 4, easy to set up, and calibration seems pretty accurate as it appears to have taken gps data to measure distance. It's accurate enough for me anyway. No need to have Nike+ shoes either, just get a little pouch for about £5 (available on amazon) to put it in and attach it to the laces on your shoe.

    Works great 8 April 2010
The sensor does exactly what it's supposed to do. I personally like the congratulatory messages you get when you achieve a personal best (I've heard Lance Armstrong and Paula Radcliffe). I also like the Nike.com interface that allows you to monitor and analyse your runs
Now it didnt get that 5th star because of the following
    1. I wish the device could be used for other exercises apart from runs
    2. One should be able to set the powersong to a playlist like can be done on the nano

however like i said, works great. I love it
