Was initially a bit skeptical about purchasing this 11inch air as a replacement for my late macbook pro 13 inches. I read countless reviews weighing up the pros and cons of the air and even considered buying a later model refurbished macbook pro for the same price as I bought the air. I am so glad i didn't.

The 11 inch air has a backlit full size keyboard that would not look out of place on larger mac, the screen (although not retina) is bigger than i initially assumed it would be, its larger than an average sized iPad and is a pleasure to look at. I have had no problems watching tv from it, both up close and at a distance. The sound is loud and clear, i have had no trouble playing music from the air and it is so loud i can still hear it from two rooms away. The design is sleek and thin and the machine itself weighs next to nothing, its much lighter than the majority of my class textbooks. When I'm walking to and from university its as though I have nothing in my bag, which is handy as I like to walk a lot.

The only downside I can say about it the air is its lack of disc drive and SD slot. The SD slot was a particularly troublesome area for me as I like to use my camera a lot. As far as I am aware the 13 inch macbook air does indeed have an SD slot but is a much more pricer model. I have looked on amazon and you can purchase a USB SD slot somewhere in the price range of £3 to £7, depending on what make you'd prefer. The same goes for the disc drive, you can purchase a usb one for around £19, so its really no trouble. Which is why I have given 5 stars.

With these additional add ons the total price of the air for me was £604. Still much cheaper than the 13inch.

Okay. Here's the good news. I've ordered one and it's a brand new 2014 MacBook Air and it came the next day. It's a legit new boxed product (not a refurb) and I've checked the serial number Service and Support with Apple (you can do it here https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do). It's a valid product with a year's Repair and Service from Apple and is eligible for the three year AppleCare plan (which I plan to get later). It's an amazing price for a legit Apple laptop.

It comes with Mac OS X Mavericks, not Yosemite but you can upgrade for free from the App Store. I'm installing the upgrade as I type this.

I love it - it's not going back.

Here's the not so good news. It's an American MacBook Air not a British Model. I can tell because the keyboards are slightly different and I've got a bit of experience with Macs. There isn't a pound (£) sign on the keyboard, instead it has the Hash symbol on key 3. If you set it up as a British keyboard you get a pound sign using Shift+3, or you can set the keyboard up to American and get a £ symbol by tapping Option-3.

It came with a U.S. power adaptor but also a UK (three pronged cable connection). This is actually really handy for me as I visit America occasionally. The power adaptor block is international so there's no problem using it.

I can live with an American model. Apple offers worldwide warranty for its products and it shouldn't be a problem. But it's clear that the reason it's so cheap is because it's an import model, something they should be mentioning in the product description. Still... it's a great bargain. Am happy with it.

If you’re like me, you’ll have spent ages comparing features and specs before splashing the cash on a new laptop. I certainly did, and I finally settled for the Mac Book Air, and here’s why.

Quick word of warning first - if you already own a Macbook Pro or Macbook Air, and want a techie comparison best skip this review. I've come from a Windows background, and I'm not an expert on the Apple mac line-up, and this is meant for similar non-experts.

Firstly, the hardware - which is just stunning. It’s incredibly thin and light at just 1.4Kg (just over a bag of sugar), and I hardly notice it in my case. The unibody design, carved out of a single peice of brushed aluminium gives this device a firm but incredibly light-weight feel, with a huge track-pad and beautifully made back-lit keyboard - great for typing in bed when it's dark. It’s astonishing really, that a device this thin is so rigid - it just screams top build quality and beautiful attention to detail.

Just like the iPad Air - this really is "a thing of beauty".

Apple make a point of not comparing the numbers, (it’s all about the experience not just a comparison of numbers) but here’s a summary of this device:-

* 1.4Ghz dual core intel i5 processor
* 4Gb of memory
* 128Gb of “hard disk” - it’s actually zippy SSD
* 1,366 x 768 pixels on screen backed with Intel HD Graphics 5000

I have to say, 128Gb is not huge, and if you’ve a large video, photo or music collection I’d advise the 256Gb model. You should be OK with 4Gb of memory though unless you plan to run an awful lot of programs simultaneously.

In terms of connectivity you get:-

* Mag Safe 2 power plug.
