4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to type and pretty but.., 11 Feb 2008
This review is from: Apple Wireless Keyboard (Electronics)
This keyboard is very stylish and streamline, and it much smaller than a normal keyboard (since there is no keypad!) which, if you don't need, is handy for freeing up desk space. It connects well onto OSX every time, no problems there.

However it does seem to guzzle batteries in my opinion, I work with my mac every day and the three triple A's have to be replaced a lot more regularly than I had hoped. Also never hit the caps lock key if you are running Boot Camp! It causes the keyboard to freeze, the only way to fix it being to take out the batteries and put them back in again, and then wait for it to reconnect. Having read the previous review which states it works fine with it, I am wondering if it is just my bad luck, or just a dodgy system! Furthermore the keyboard obviously has no USB ports, unlike the wired model (however it or the wireless mighty mouse don't need them so six of one...)

Overall I would say if you are going to buy it just because it looks pretty and for the novelty of wireless (as I did) I would recommend getting a wired one!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but..., 17 Oct 2008

I bought the wireless version of this sleek aluminium keyboard as an upgrade with an Intel based iMac. On the plus side I like the appearance and the ability to stow the keyboard away after use. However I touch type and I am aware of a delay when typing. There is also a mixed response with certain keys - such as the caps lock and the wireless version lacks various useful keys such as a forward delete key. This means pressing two keys instead of one which is a nuisance.

After putting up with these annoying features for a few months I bought the cheaper wired version. It has an excellent response when touch typing and better functionality. Unless you are planning on typing from some distance away from the screen I would buy the wired version.

The other thing that applies to both keyboards is that they are very flat and lack a wrist support. This makes them look better, but I would recommend purchasing a wrist support if you intend to do a lot of typing.

There's something wrong with this keyboard. Keyboards are designed to type on, they are functional, they are a utilitarian feature of the office - they are not designed to be beautiful devices which inevitably attract everyone to pick it up and feel it! Apple make the most mundane items a style icon and this is no different.

This isn't a case of form over function though - the keyboard is very small but the keys are the same size as those on my `regular' keyboard. Having spent some time on one, I never managed to mash several keys at once with my clumsy digits, and every keystroke feels nice and solid. The tubular top where the batteries go make for a comfortable angle when resting on a desk, but it's equally nice to balance on your lap. Battery life isn't great, but I've nothing else to compare it to - but rechargeable high MaH batteries will give longer service. Some have mentioned a lag time after keystrokes but it's nothing I've had any problems with.

In a nutshell: This is the perfect accompaniment for a Mac user who wishes to have a wireless keyboard, I also have a friend who uses one of these with his PS3. Cheaper wireless keyboards are available but this is something special. The metal construction allows the keyboard to be strong yet also incredibly thin.

I wish Apple would make tin-openers, but then I'd probably want to have it on display rather than bung it away in the utensil drawer in the kitchen.
