The Mighty Mouse is by far the best mouse I have used from either the Apple family or with the PCs I used to use in ealier days. Its scroll ball [more like a pip] works scrolling from left to right as well as up and down and you can configure the side 'buttons' for a number of different purposes. However, after about six months I found I could not scroll down or I could but haltingly. My answer to this was to blow air into the trackball while keeping it depressed and then to clean the trackball and mouse with a lint cloth dipped in a small amount of isopropyl alcohol. It worked a treat and now I never have any trouble with it. The side buttons are quite useful and I have mine configured to show 'spaces' or 'expose'. I higly recommend this mouse for all apple users.

This Apple Wired Mouse is good, really good, and you pay more for a really good, well designed product. And you would expect it to work for a decent period of time but the fact of the matter is that I'm ending up replacing mine well within 12 months due to the scroll wheel not working properly and although there's plenty of online help to rectify the problem *the problem should not exist in the first place*.

My new mouse has only lasted 6 months this time so I'll simply say its not fit for purpose and end up shelling out another £40. And please dont tell me how I can repair it, I've tried every which way, I'm fed up wasting my time on it and they are temporary fixes at best.

Way to go Apple ............

~ UPDATE 28th July 2014 ~

And another one stopped working so around 6 months use this time. This cabled mouse is not meant to be serviced, the bottom retaining ring is glued on so you'll need some superglue to put it back together if you try. I cleaned it out and the scroll wheel was working again as it hang on its ribbon cable but when I put it back together it died and have wasted yet more time on a poorly designed *Apple* product.

I'm loathed to say it as I love Apple (I work on them every day) but this mouse is my 2nd and in no time at all the ball goes on it, I clean it and do all the things I need to do to get it working again but in no time at all it'll go again. Very disappointing! Ended up buying a cheapo PC scroll mouse for £5 in the end!

The Apple wired mouse (or its now-discontinued cordless equivalent) is a great little mouse. It's touch-sensitive, so it can be configured as a traditional 1-button mouse (Apple-style), or as a standard 2-button mouse (PC-style), with a really nice little scroll ball providing both vertical and horizontal scrolling and which can be configured as a third middle button (Unix-style). And since it's now the only Apple mouse, I believe, that has this 3-button capability, it's the one I must have. It feels good in the hand, it works positively and accurately -- it just works brilliantly...

... until it stops working, that is. It was designed by Apple, with all their style and their belief in perfect functionality, but it was designed to be used in an ultra-clean environment. It's basically a sealed unit, so if you get a grain of dust inside the scroll-ball mechanism, it won't scroll in some direction or other, and you have to hope you can get it out by cleaning it the prescribed way -- wiping across the ball with a slightly damp cloth. At first, it works. Then it gets more difficult. When it won't come clean, tough -- I tend to continue using my mouse for months after I begin to lose scrolling until I can no longer scroll with it at all, and eventually give up. If you flood your mouse by tipping Coke, or coffee, over it, you might be lucky and it'll still work after you've rinsed it, but probably not.

My Apple mouse is in use 8-10 hours a day 6 days a week. If it lasts me three years, I'm delighted. When it dies, I buy another one because there's nothing better. I hope they never replace it -- unless it's with something equally perfect and more reliable.

But I DON'T buy it from a company that charges me £11 for P&P.

Loved this mouse, until about a year of using it , when the ball went. I bought another one, and after a year of using that the ball went on that one too!!

I then bought a wireless apple mouse and the battery door keeps falling off, and if I pick the mouse up a bit and drop it lightly on the desk, the wireless drops out. Sometimes I just cannot get the mouse to connect at all.

It's funny, because Apple make wonderful computers, but they just can't cannot for the life of them make something simple like a mouse properly.

I got this item from Amazon to replace the wireless mouse on my apple iMac computer that went haywire due to jamming wireless signals. I went for the wired one as I know from experience that wired mouse will always stay on when they are connected to the computer. For those who like using apple mac just prefer wired mouse as opposed to wireless, go for this one, but talk to apple computer technicians or experts first before buying.
You may struggle with the very latest apple mac models, but it should work OK with the older types. My computer is an iMac I bought from 2004 and with this mouse, it works OK.
