Mac mini is even more of a powerhouse, thanks to a new dual-core Intel Core i5 processor, discrete AMD Radeon HD graphics, and ultrafast Thunderbolt technology. It also comes with OS X Lion, the world's most advanced desktop operating system.
This version of the Mac mini (model MC816LL/A) features a 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 dual-core processor and AMD Radeon HD 6630M discrete graphics (with 256 MB of dedicated video memory) as well as 4 GB of RAM (expandable to 8 GB) and 500 GB of hard drive storage (see full specifications below). It also comes with the iLife software suite, which includes the latest versions of iPhoto, iMovie, and GarageBand.
Every Mac comes with OS X Lion, the latest release of the world's most advanced desktop operating system. With over 250 features including Multi-Touch gestures, Mission Control, full-screen apps, and Launchpad, OS X Lion takes the Mac further than ever.
The Mac mini features a precisely constructed unibody enclosure that even houses its own integrated power supply into the 7.7-inch square aluminum enclosure (that's also 1.4 inches thin)--eliminating the need for an external power brick. Additionally, the Mac mini helps contain your environmental footprint with a 10 watt power consumption.
Despite its smaller size, the Mac mini offers a full range of ports for connecting to your existing peripherals--from keyboards and mice to external hard drives and displays (via the Thunderbolt and HDMI ports). And when you're ready to add more memory, the Mac mini's bottom removable panel makes the upgrade process a breeze.
Developed by Intel with collaboration from Apple, high-speed Thunderbolt I/O (input/output) technology delivers an amazing 10 gigabits per second of transfer speeds in both directions. Built into the Mac mini, the Thunderbolt port allows you to connect to new Thunderbolt-compatible peripherals as well as existing USB and FireWire peripherals using simple adapters. You'll be able to move data up to 20 times faster than with USB 2.0 and more than 12 times faster than with FireWire 800, and you can daisy-chain up to six high-speed devices without using a hub. Thunderbolt also supports DisplayPort for high resolution displays and works with existing adapters for HDMI, DVI, and VGA displays.

Note: The Mac mini does not come with an optical drive, however OS X Lion offers the convenient DVD or CD Sharing feature, which lets you wirelessly "borrow" the optical drive of a nearby Mac or PC. So you can install applications from a DVD or CD and have full access to an optical drive without having to carry one around. Additionally, you can connect an optional optical drive (such as the MacBook Air SuperDrive) via one of the USB ports.
The Mac mini comes with 90 days of free telephone support and a 1-year limited warranty, which can be extended to 3 years with the AppleCare Protection Plan.
Because Apple makes the hardware, the operating system, and many applications, the Mac is a truly integrated system. And only the AppleCare Protection Plan gives you one-stop service and support from Apple experts, so most issues can be resolved in a single call. Extend the complimentary service and support on your Mac to 3 years from the original Mac purchase date with the AppleCare Protection Plan. You get direct telephone access to Apple experts for technical questions, and you get global repair coverage--including both parts and labor--for your Mac and select Apple peripherals.

Amazing,,

This review is from: Apple Mac mini (Dual-Core i5,2.3GHz,2GB,500GB HD,HD Graphics (Personal Computers)
15 year old PC user here. This is my first Mac. This is amazing. Sure, you can get a better spec PC but I like Apple's hardware/software combo; they make both. I ordered this from the Apple store yesterday in person and they even set this up for me in store for no extra cost! So when I got home it just works. I really do think you get what you pay for. The operating system is fast and it comes with OSX Lion on course. It's virtually silent. Even more quiet than my Windows laptops I'd say.I've got this connected up to a 24" widescreen, Apple keyboard/mouse and trackpad and it just works! I'd say make the switch to Mac as you will not regret it. I must admit, both OSX and Windows do have their pros and cons though, as nice as the Mac is. I had to do software updates and things like that, I even had to configure my magic mouse to right click which I thought was a bit silly but ahh well, it had to be done. One thing, I decided on this instead of the iMac as I wasn't keen on the all in one's, and I wanted the Mac Mini for something to switch over to while I wait for the 2012 Macbook Pros with Ivy Bridge in them hopefully. It's true, once you go Mac, you never go back. Cheers

Mac Mini,

This review is from: Apple Mac mini (Dual-Core i5,2.3GHz,2GB,500GB HD,HD Graphics (Personal Computers)
This is my third Mac. It is as impressive as the old 17" 'table lamp' model I started with and my current iMac 21.5". I bought the Mini to replace the aging PC I use at my second home in France. The minimalist design of the Mac Mini, its 500Gb hard drive and Mac OS x Lion with iCloud make it the perfect partner to communicate with the iMac back in the UK. Quick and easy to set up, it was simplicity itself to migrate all my software and files from the iMac and does everything I need competently with the advantage of the intuitive OS X operating system. I was initially concerned at the lack of optical drive but manage perfectly well without it. The SD card slot enables me to copy and play music on my car audio system and I can copy files to the iCloud to download to my iMac when I return to the UK. Its portability will enable me take it back and forth and use it as a media centre in the UK connected to my TV by HDMI cable. My old Apple keyboard, Logitech optical mouse and Acer monitor were easy to connect and were instantly recognised.Only one disappointment shared by many is the lack of support for older software versions and peripherals. I am left with an excellent scanner that is no longer supported (Canon must, however, take some responsibility for that) and am no longer able to use MS Office for Mac 2004 though the Apple equivalent package, iWork is an excellent replacement at a fraction of the cost. Everything considered, the Mac Mini is a lot of computing power for the money with a very small form factor.

Excellent bit of kit,

This review is from: Apple Mac mini (Lion Server Quad-Core i7,2.0GHz,4GB,Dual 500GB,HD Graphics) (Personal Computers)
What a great bit of kit. First up, let me say that this machine is not used as a server! Instead, I have used it for home storage of music, films, home made movies etc. So the machine was purchased as a home storage (which you get with the server version of the mac mini 2x 500GB 7200rpm hard drives come as standard). With the additional attraction of having a great processor (Intel quad core i7). The non-server versions of the mac mini come with hard drives with 5,200 rpm so a great upgrade for my needs. To boot, the machine has all the usual benefits of Macs, in that they are clatter and virus free and "just works". I have a 6 year old mac mini 1st generation and still works as well as it did when I bought it because 3rd party software is heavily policed by Apple so that it doesn't introduce malware (or any other little bugs that ultimately slow PCs down). The only downside with mac mini server is that if you are a serious gamer, there's no discrete GPU (although you can rig it externally if you are that bothered) AND during set-up, make sure you have a USB keyboard and mouse handy even if you eventually want to use a bluetooth keyboard and either (my preference) a magic trackpad or bluetooth mouse. But be warned: some unscrupulous 3rd party traders on amazon are using the wrong RRP so you think you are getting a saving but check on apple.com/uk for the latest upto date RRP. And remember, if you qualify for educational discount, you can get 3 years waranty FREE by buying directly from Apple. Don't be conned
