**** IMPORTANT NOTES **** ::: 1: *** Mini DisplayPort or Mini DVI ? *** ::: 2: *** AUDIO IS NOW 100% SUPPORTED FOR 2010 Macs ***, 11 Dec 2009
This review is from: Apple Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter cable by Neet® - ( VIDEO + AUDIO converter for Unibody MacBook - Pro - Air - iMac + PC with Mini DP etc. ) * NOTE: Supports new THUNDERBOLT port *)*** WITH AUDIO ***
***** AUDIO UPDATE ***** Audio is supported on 2010 MacBook Pro and iMac 27" / 21.5" ::: This adapter is fully compatible for AUDIO on the latest MacBook Pro (i5/i7 and 13" etc)) and also the iMac 27 and 21.5" models now that Apple have audio out enabled over Mini DisplayPort... upcoming Apple models from 2010 on should also have Audio support. So long as the Apple mac or Mini DisplayPort output supports audio then so will this adapter and it will be sent over the single HDMI cable.
Please note that earlier Apple Macs with Mini DisplayPort (2008 - 2009 models) do not transmit audio over the Mini DP. If in doubt please check the specs of your Mac or contact Neet Cables for fast and friendly customer support.
***** IMPORTANT NOTE ***** :: " Mini DisplayPort " is NOT the same as " Mini DVI " !!! :::: Its is extremely common for folks to buy the wrong adapter and need to return or exchange despite the *** warnings *** in the product info above (I guess folks read reviews more than product info) ... so if you are not sure which Mac port you have, please read the following info as it may help !!!
As it says in the product description ::: This "Mini DisplayPort" adapter is used to " Connect new generation Apple MacBook, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air with Mini Displayport " . This is for newer generation Macs from late 2008 onwards such as the UNIBODY MacBook and MacBook Pro and AIR ... also the newer iMacs.
Most slightly older Macs (Including MacBook, MacBook Pro and Air ... UP TO late 2008) have a different, slightly bigger but similar looking port called " Mini DVI " and this is NOT the same as " Mini DisplayPort " ... and will not fit.
You can see a close up picture of the actual ports and adapter connection in the 'other' images at the top of the product listing and this will help you check to see if your port matches :::: If you have an older Mac and require the Neet " Mini DVI to HDMI adapter " it can be found here ::
Apple Mini DVI to HDMI adapter cable by Neet®
There are also a couple of other, less common adapters that Apple used briefly... one is called "Mini VGA" (found on older Macs) and another is called " Micro DVI " (found on the MacBook Air for one year only) ... these are far less common but still get confused. ( Even Apple can give the wrong advise (eg: telling customers that Mini VGA is Mini DVI but an older version so folks go looking for an older Mini DVI which does not exist ))
The bottom line is to be sure and check your port before buying ... and if in any doubt, please contact Neet Cables via ' contact seller ' on Amazon and we will be more than happy to help.
This Neet Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter is plug & play, works very well and will be dispatched quickly with fast and friendly email customer support from Neet if needed ... but please check that you are buying the correct adapter first !
( Please kindly note ::: I work on customer support at Neet Cables and AMAZON suggested that this information be left as a 'review' due to excessive returns / exchanges as a result of folks buying the wrong adapter. This results in frustration and wasted time waiting for exchanges for customers and also a lot of wasted postage costs for us and Amazon ... so hopefully this 'review' and info will help save a lot of time and wasted postage costs for us all ! ... If you think it is helpful , please mark it as ' helpful ' so it stays at the top and will be seen by anyone browsing... many thanks :)

For those having trouble getting sound on their Macbook Pro, 14 Feb 2011
This review is from: Apple Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter cable by Neet® - ( VIDEO + AUDIO converter for Unibody MacBook - Pro - Air - iMac + PC with Mini DP etc. ) * NOTE: Supports new THUNDERBOLT port *)*** WITH AUDIO ***
Ok, so I noticed that a couple comments have been left saying there is no sound when connecting to a TV.
I had the same problem when I connected and could not find any help online, but got the solution from Apple Care, it's pretty straight forward.
Go to System Preferences > Sound > Output > Change output device to the TV it is connected to (eg SONY).
That's it, but you have to change it everytime you plug you MacBook Pro into the TV.

Tips for novices like me, 17 Feb 2011

This review is to help anybody who, like me, is new to the wide variety of cables and ways of linking up electronic equipment. I wanted to connect a 2 Core Duo iMac to a Sony Bravia TV in order to stream films from LoveFilm or watch programmes using the BBC's iPlayer. Below I describe how, with the help of NEET technical services I managed to achieve my goal.
(1) I plugged in the Mini Display Port to HDMI Adaptor into the iMac; attached an HDMI cable and plugged the other end into an HDMI socket on the Sony TV, but could only get the background screen of the TV and not anything playing: solved this by going into the iMac's System Preferences and opening Displays and turning on Screen mirroring. This got me what was playing on the screen, but not the sound.
(2) I tried plugging in an audio cable into the iMac's headphone socket. That didn't work. I then thought that I needed the more expensive Mini Display Port to HDMI Adaptor
Mini DisplayPort + TOSLINK Digital Audio to HDMI (v1.3b) adapter cable by Neet® - ( for Unibody MacBook - Pro - iMac etc. ), but first contacted NEET technical services on-line. They were very helpful and checked the manufacturing date of my iMac. Apparently those produced before April 2010 need the more expensive adaptor, but mine fell into the more recent batch and should work with the one I'm reviewing. Neet tipped me off that I needed to enable the adaptor before the audio part would work. So I went into the iMac's System Preferences and opened Sound and hey presto 'Sony TV" was listed. Note, though, you have to have the Adaptor and HDMI cable plugged in at both ends and the TV on.
Thank you NEET technical services!
