5.0 out of 5 stars Superb bit of kit 18 Mar 2011
I've been after one of these for ages but could never quite justify the cost, then this came along at Amazon for virtually half price as a refurb. (must be ex demo as it still had the protective plastic on it.)

A real shame that Apple has discontinued it. If you use a Mac professionally there is no way you can use a glossy screen as on the new Apple screens, fine for watching YouTube but useless for graphic work.

I thought my old Acrylic 23 cinema was good but this is even better, really sharp and the whitest whites.

If you possibly can grab one I would recommend it, the Dell 30in is ok but the design is not a patch on Apples, which lets face it if you're going to look at it for hours on end is really important.

Does really need to go up on a VESA mount though as it's a bit low for me but then I'm 6'5" so may not be a problem for others

Mainly I'm looking forward to not having to open and close menus all the time!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brings a new dimension to your desktop 7 Sep 2010
By Chris L TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
I use this Apple 30" Cinema Display with my PowerMac G5 and it is brilliant. Watching films on it is amazing, they really fill the room (This is set up in my study at the moment which is not that big) and any sort of work such as touching up images in Aperture etc is excellent.

The aluminium surround looks unbelievable, and, despite the weight of this (beware this monitor weighs a ton compared to smaller LCD's) it really fits in neatly with it's surrounding. I have the aluminium Apple Keyboard and Trackpad as well and they really complement each other. It also has USB and Firewire ports built in.

The only real downsides (if you can call them that) are that this thing generates a huge amount of heat compared to other monitors which is worth bearing in mind and also it is a bit fiddly getting to the USB and Firewire ports which are behind the screen, although this is still easier than fiddling around under your desk at the back of the PowerMac. It is also very expensive.

I still love it and at the moment have this and a 23" HP LCD Monitor rigged up to the PowerMac graphics card - When I get a chance I will replace the HP monitor with a 23" Apple Cinema Display to bring better synergy to my desktop.

If you are an Apple fan or just love great product and design you will love this.

I hope this review was of help to you:)

5.0 out of 5 stars Transform the way you work 30 Sep 2008
Over the years there have been a lot of products that promise to transform the way you work. PDAs, operating systems, smart phones... they all disappoint. This doesn't. You can have 3 different documents open at once, more if it's plugged into a laptop or you use a 2nd screen (I used 2 cinema screens for a bit: you could see the lights dim all down the street when I booted my rig up in the morning).

I get sooo much more done, so much more quickly now. And it's just a pleasure to sit in front of. Every morning I sit down to work and I just smiiiile.

Using a 30" is completely different to using, say, two 20" monitors. Everything is in the same place, you're not constantly looking at a central bar.

If there's one concern it's eye strain. You have to be careful not to stare on it for hours on end. Take regular screen breaks, kids. You only get one pair of eyes.

This is the best piece of technology I've ever bought, and I've bought a lot. Whether you're into graphics-heavy work or not, it will transform the way you work... for the better.
