5.0 out of 5 stars AWSOME 24 Mar 2011
By Michael
Very good product and not to badly priced when you consider it has a 1TB drive in it. 2TB is OTT for my needs I am not a data hoarder.

I have it hooked on to an ADSL2 modem works perfectly with a modem DHCP or not.

I have a printer and harddisk on it also.

I don't use the time machine stuff (I tried it though and it works very well). I prefer to use it as network attached storage.

I set up my own syncing with chronosync (for OSX disk syncing scheduling) as I use more than one machine off it. I capture all my data in syncs during the night from all my machines to the time capsule. I then set one machine on a cable to sync the internal time capsule disk to an external hard drive on the time capsules USB port (western digital the mac ones) after that is complete. A very cheap backup system that should not fail at once (computer > time capsule > external all over the network (you can even do a net backup if you have bandwidth while doing this)).

The wifi is fast enough for most needs but the gigabit cables supported are "very" fast.

Oh and YES you can change the disk it it goes after your warranty just look it up I opened it up to see it is as easy as swapping a disk on a Mac book - REALLY. Apple will say only they can do it but that is nonsense Apple build stuff now so all those two week trained kid geniuses can fix them and not technicians. You don't need a degree to do this but you should wait for the warranty to go.

Admin is done via software utility on all macs and not a browser. Plenty options.

Printers work fine over it.

USB hub did work for me but you need to research that depending on your needs.

Great bit of kit for backing up using my more advanced way or just letting it do it for you.

This is a bit heavier than I expected out of the box. It feels very well made and runs quietly.

Set up a doddle if you have a Mac. Needs a bit more work with Windows like installing Airport Utility. Then you need to map network drive. After that works flawlessly. Make sure you make initial backup with ethernet. For Macs, the backup software is built in. For Windows I use a free Microsoft tool called Synch Toy. Make sure you set synch to "echo".

I also access files on the time capulse from my ipad and iphone using an App all called File Browser (2.99 well worth it). This allows flawless access to all the synched files and also streaming of video files.

As my Macbook has limited storage I store all my video files and Apple Lossless files on the Time Capsule and import to iTunes on my Macbook. This allows the media to be accessed by Apple TV via WiFi. Works really well, probably because the WiFi of Time Capsule is very good and fast.

This is not cheap, but the ease of use makes it worth it. No brainer especially if you have a Mac.

The item does not work, I went to an apple store to see if the item was working, but it's not. I would like to return the item and make the refund for it.
