LED backlighting. One bright idea

Full brightness with no waiting. That’s the advantage of the LED-backlit iMac display. Unlike displays that take time to warm up before they reach maximum brightness, an LED-backlit display is instantly on and uniformly bright. LED backlighting also lets you finely tune the iMac display to suit the ambient light in even the dimmest room.

More pixels. Better picture

The 21.5-inch iMac features 1920-by-1080 resolution.

Stunning from every angle

The iMac display looks great from any seat in the house, thanks to a premium display technology called in-plane switching (IPS). IPS gives you a bright picture with excellent color — even if you’re viewing the display from the side.

Next-generation quad-core Intel processors

Powered by quad-core processors, the new iMac is our fastest yet — up to 70 percent faster than the previous generation. Every model in the lineup comes standard with the latest Intel Core i5 quad-core processor. You even have the option to configure the 21.5- or 27-inch iMac with the Intel Core i7, the fastest quad-core processor available. But why stop there? Add up to 16GB of DDR3 memory and an ultrafast 256GB solid-state drive, and you’ve got an all-in-one that can handle just about anything.

All-new advanced AMD Radeon HD graphics

With advanced AMD Radeon HD graphics processors across the line, iMac performs even better than before — up to three times better, in fact. So you see more frames per second in 3D games, and you can edit HD home videos with more speed and responsiveness than you ever thought possible.

Thunderbolt -a versatile I/O in a desktop

Ultrafast and ultraflexible, the Thunderbolt port features two 10-Gbps data channels for data transfer that’s up to 12 times faster than FireWire 800 and up to 20 times faster than USB 2.0. And it offers unprecedented expansion capabilities for a new generation of high-performance peripherals.

The new FaceTime HD camera

Get more of your friends in the picture with crisp, widescreen HD video. The new FaceTime HD camera lets you make FaceTime video calls in 720p resolution. The picture is so clear, it will look and feel almost like you’re in the same room. Make HD calls from one new iMac to another or to a new MacBook Pro. You can also make video calls to other Intel-based Mac computers, iPad 2, iPhone 4, or the latest iPod touch.

Magic Mouse or Magic Trackpad

Now you can choose the perfect cord-free setup. When you buy your new iMac from the Apple Online Store, you have the option to swap Magic Mouse for Magic Trackpad at no extra cost. With Magic Mouse, you can perform simple gestures across its smooth, seamless top shell. Scroll in any direction with one finger, swipe through web pages and photos with two, and click and double-click anywhere. For full gesture support, opt for Magic Trackpad. Made with a touch-friendly all-glass surface, Magic Trackpad is the largest Multi-Touch trackpad made by Apple. So there’s plenty of room for scrolling, swiping, pinching, rotating, and then some.

It’s very well connected.
Thunderbolt

The new Thunderbolt port lets you daisy-chain as many as six devices plus an additional display. So with just one port you can create the ultimate do-anything desktop. And since Thunderbolt is based on DisplayPort technology, you can plug any Mini DisplayPort display right into the Thunderbolt port.

USB and FireWire

Bring on your iPad, iPod, digital camera, mobile phone, and external hard drive — there’s no shortage of ports on iMac. Four USB 2.0 ports and a FireWire 800 port give you plenty of peripheral possibilities.

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth

The latest 802.11n wireless technology in iMac makes it effortless to connect to a Wi-Fi network. iMac automatically finds available networks and lets you join them with a click. Bluetooth wireless technology is also built in, so you can use your favorite wireless accessories right out of the box.

SDXC

Transfer photos and videos to your iMac as fast as you take them. The built-in SDXC card slot supports SD and SDHC cards with capacities up to 2TB. Just insert your camera’s memory card and import your photos to iPhoto.

Product Description

The iMac comes with a wireless keyboard and either a Magic Mouse or a Magic Trackpad, your choice, at no extra cost. With Magic Mouse, you get a mouse unlike any other. Its smooth, seamless design lets you control everything with simple gestures. But if you're all gestures all the time, then opt for Magic Trackpad. Its touch-friendly all-glass surface gives you plenty of room to scroll, swipe, pinch, and rotate to your fingers' content. The glass that surrounds the LED-backlit display wraps around the edge

The product itself needs no selling! This is an excellent desktop computer, without the usual clatter of a computer box! It's exceptionally fast AND comes with the usual benefits of Macs. Intuitive operating system, perfect compatibility with iOS devices such as iPods, iPhones and iPads. If you really want to unleash the full potential of your new iPhones or iPads, you really ought to get a Mac. Clearly the iMac is an expnsive way of doing it but there are not any other more elegant solutions.

But be warned: some unscrupulous 3rd party traders on amazon are using the wrong RRP so you think you are getting a saving but check on apple.com/uk for the latest upto date RRP. And remember, if you qualify for educational discount, you can get 3 years waranty FREE by buying directly from Apple. Don't be conned

I have used Windows since Win 2 (well used is a bit of a stretch for Win 2 but you'll get my meaning) and I currently have Win 7 on an I7 PC. Despite the many years of PC use I found I was getting fed up with all the alerts, Trojan's virus's and the ongoing cost of combating them all and, as I really enjoy my IPad I thought I'd give Mac's a try. Result so far; very impressed.

The IMac was very easy to setup, plugged in the ethernet cable from my BT HH3 expecting to have to enter all sorts of details a la Windows and no, it all just worked, was I amazed

From switch on until the machine is usable takes 35 seconds, Screen is crystal clear and bright. Every thing appears to be very user configurable with very little effort. I connected a Freecom drive to which I had backed up all my files from my Win 7 machine and the IMac read them without problems. Very easy, and fast to copy from the Freecom to the mac. The Mac would not write to the Freecom drive until I had re-formatted it.

I like the Icons on the docking bar and the way they bounce to let you know that they're loading. I also like the fact that I could buy a word processor, Pages, and a spreadsheet, Numbers, for £[] and download them straight onto the machine. And I'm a major fan of the back up system offered by Time Machine. Overall lots of good, useful software that's so very easy to use that I wonder how I did without - Re the machine(screen) itself there are no controls on the front of the 'machine at all and the back is fairly fuss free as well. Rear connections are 4 USB, 1 Firewire, 1 Ethernet and one Thunderbird port as well as the power lead. The on/off switch is located on the rear of the machine as well, easily reached though on the left hand side.

Bought as a replacement for my 2007 iMac which was running slowly on Lion. Arrived within 2 working days - shipped with Snow Leopard though (so only 4 stars). Have upgraded and it is lightning fast. Excellent and bought for £100 less than Apple price. Shipped with wireless keyboard and magic mouse which is a treat with new Lion gestures.
