5.0 out of 5 stars Very Reliable, 16 Aug 2008
By Lampy (Worcs) - See all my reviews
The apple airport extreme is completely reliable.

It sits on a shelf with a single green light telling me all is well. And I know thats right because there have been 4 apple macs and 1 pc wirelessly linked to it for the last 8 months and not once have we experienced a single problem... even for the pc. We have a printer connected to its usb port and all 5 computers painlessly print documents. Setting up the airport extremes configuration and security is also painless.

In fact so impressed with the trouble free experience am I, I have installed another Airport for relatives and they too have had no issues what so ever.

Not the cheapest wireless router I've had but by far the most reliable. It just works!

It sits there looking shiny and getting on with the job. What else do you want?

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny, 4 Jan 2009

I bought this to extend my current wireless network, another Airport Extreme, to my home theatre set-up. It has four Ethernet sockets so allows me to network my Xbox360, Blue-Ray player and HTPC without the need for multiple wireless adaptors.

I am using the Airport's 'extend wireless network' feature which was fully automatic once selected with the right network name and key (WPA2 in my case).

I previously used a Netgear WGPS606 to extend the network but this device became unusable due to interference. The Airport Extreme is far more resilient than the Netgear in this respect.

Highly recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars More show than go., 22 Sep 2008

Fine for what it is, but not for this price. Sure it's easy to set up, but so are most wireless-n routers now. I went back to my DIR-655 because this isn't powerful enough to give me a good signal outside the house. If you have Macs (like me) and PC's mixed together it will work but so will most of the much cheaper competition (and they'll have more ports). Make sure it's placed centrally in the house if you can and it'll be fine.
