4.0 out of 5 stars It's so 3D 28 July 2014
Format:Blu-ray|Verified Purchase
The first official concert film from GNR in 22 years. And you thought the wait for albums was long.

Quite a bit has changed in those 22 years. We've gone from VHS, skipped DVD and ended up with not just a Blu-ray release but a 3D Blu-ray.

The GNR line-up has changed a fair bit as well. This is barely even the band that recorded Chinese Democracy anymore but, impressively, this is the longest surviving version of GNR without a line-up change. It shows. They're tight, feel like a band of brothers, and although the title 'Appetite for Democracy' is terribly un-GNR, it does ring somewhat true with each member of the band given time in the spotlight. Sometimes too much. Solos and jams punctuate the majority of songs while Axl catches his breath and changes into a new hat, but the weird thing is they're not actually all that bad.

So despite this not being the GNR people want, it's a GNR that is easy to like, and the performance is a strong one. As is to be expected, Axl breaks from his rasp into his modernday Mickey Mouse voice here and there, and at other times he sounds like he's had some postproduction added to his vocals, but this is about as good as this incarnation of GNR has sounded and the sound mix is excellent overall.

The 1080p visuals and well chosen camera angles also help make this the best 21st century GNR show you'll find and the 3D genuinely does add to the experience, even if it does give guitarist DJ Ashba licence to point his guitar into the cameras and throw his picks at them time after time. While there's an option to watch in 2D, if you have the appropriate equipment, the ticker tape explosion during Paradise City is the kind of thing 3D was made for.

Read the reviews on the US amazon site for a more accurate description of this superb concert DVD....although I love the old band the current line up that Axl Rose has assembled is simply phenomenal and they are a beast of a live band. The mix is superb on this DVD and you can appreciate the contributions and talent of all the band and of course Axl has still got that amazing and unique voice and still smashes it live on stage. If you haven't got Chinese Democracy then order it along with this as it is a criminally underrated album that deserved more recognition and attention than it got when it was released in 2008. GNR are alive and well....

5.0 out of 5 stars GN'R Still going strong! 28 Aug 2014
Format:Blu-ray|Verified Purchase
Guns N' Roses are still amazing, been following the band since i realised Axl came back in 2006 (i know he came back in 1999, but i was too young), The Setlist is brilliant and very different to most years, mostly due to the fact Axl seemed to be struggling in 2012, though with this, most songs sounds great, Except for Estranged and You Could Be Mine (but tbh i exected that to sound awful =/). It's worth buying and checking out no matter what you think about this line-up. They can blow your mind. I especially Enoyed Catcher in the Rye and Don't Cry, November Rain is fun to watch though not his best performance, check out a few 2010 performances of that to see some of his best in recent years. Richard Fortus also does an amazing solo in Rocket Queen. worth the import money, don't bother waiting for the UK release, could take years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best live DVD seen in ages 21 Aug 2014
By ade uk
Best live DVD seen in ages, no axel ratings and ravings and walking off stage that spoil so many of his shows in recent years
Just a tight loud rocking band, pole dancers and a spinal tap piano for November rain , oh and axel in great voice nailing all the guns standards.
Who is better axel or slash ? The argument will rage on for years but this regardless of which side of the fence you sit
this is a great showcase for those classic songs they both wrote. Audio is great, 3d fab and great band shots, no constant camera changes which spoil so many live DVDs.
Civil War and Paradise my stand outs......
