Book Description

The spellbinding fourth novel in the acclaimed Covenant series from #1 New York Times bestselling Jennifer L. Armentrout.

Fate isn't something to mess with... and now, neither is Alex.

Alex has always feared two things: losing herself in the Awakening and being placed on the Elixir. But love has always been stronger than Fate, and Aiden St. Delphi is willing to make war on the god - and Alex herself - to bring her back.

The gods have killed thousands and could destroy entire cities in their quest to stop Seth from taking Alex's power and becoming the all-powerful God Killer. But breaking Alex's connection to Seth isn't the only problem. There are a few pesky little loopholes in the whole 'an Apollyon can't be killed' theory, and the only person who might know how to stop the destruction has been dead for centuries.

Finding their way past the barriers that guard the Underworld, searching for one soul among countless millions, and then somehow returning will be hard enough. Alex might be able to keep Seth from becoming the God Killer... or she might become the God Killer herself.

Another fast-paced, addictive, page turner from Jennifer L. Armentrout. Seriously, these books are so hard to put down and I'm feeling a little annoyed that I've read them so fast, because now I only have Sentinel left and I'm already missing this series.
Apollyon is epic and the plot twists and turns just keep on coming. I really loved how Alex and Aiden's relationship blossomed in this book and they are a real partnership now. I just couldn't get enough of those romance scenes, swoon-worthy in the extreme. I suspect I know what's around the corner for them, and I'm excited to see how the next chapter enfolds.
I missed Seth dreadfully in this book, yes - he's there, at the end of the cord, but it's not the same. Poor Seth, he's just so lost and all he wants is to be truly loved. I really hope Alex can get through to him because I'd hate it if she actually did have to kill him.
I suspected Romvi from the start, and in Deity, I pretty much figured it out. All the same, he turned into an even nastier piece of work than I'd expected.
Alex has matured in this book and it was a natural progression for her, though I loved her when she was being consistently snarky and irrational.
I think my favorite scene of the novel was when Alex and Aiden were in the Underworld. To combine romance, action, and suspense so expertly is the sign of a really talented author.
This is an incredible series; awesome writing, engaging characters, action packed plot and compelling dialogue. A must read for all fans of YA fiction.

Jennifer L. Armentrout/J. Lynn is one of my favorite authors and most people who have read some or any of her books will agree that they're freaking amazing. So you would think that I would read Apollyon - the fourth book in the Covenant series - as soon as possible. You would be wrong. I let this book sit on my shelf for about five months. Having now read it, I have to seriously ask myself, what is wrong with me? Anyway, I picked up Elixir (book #3.5) on my Kindle a few hours before I started Apollyon, just to get me back into the world and prepare me for book #4, and the second I finished Elixir, Apollyon was in my hands and pages were flying like crazy.

Reading Elixir really helped bridge Deity and Apollyon, allowing me to see Aiden's pain (it's his POV), but it's not necessary. The book picks up a while after the end of Deity and Alex has connected with Seth; she's no longer herself. It was kind of scary seeing Alex believe that Seth completely loved her and that his actions were for the best. This is all happening while the gods are preparing for war and it seems like the world is ending. It's frustrating, but in a good way, because you know that if Alex could just break the bond then they'd all have a chance at stopping Seth from becoming the God Killer.

Eventually Alex does break the bond, with a little help from Aiden. The gods are divided and some won't hesitate to take Alex out, so there is also a lot of secret planning and plotting that goes on. However, because Apollo is the god that Alex is descended from he is trying to help her and his personality combined with Alex's is hilarious. The difference between god and mortal is so obvious and you can't help but laugh at their dialogue.

Check out the full review of the Covenant series at

In my personal opinion: if you don’t want to continue reading the series after you’ve read the end of Deity (where Alex goes through the Awakening) then you’re crazy (and even more so if you give up after Elixir!!). The fourth book of the series, Apollyon, picks up where Elixir finishes (I would strongly recommend reading Elixir between Deity and Apollyon) and we get to see Alex’s internal battle with “evil Alex” and Seth. Eventually the bond between Seth and Alex is broken and over the course of this books we see Alex’s character maturing and developing, which is particularly good because the story wouldn’t have continued to advance if Alex had made the same choices that she did in the first couple of books. We also learn more about Seth in this book, through the connection that he has with Alex. I found Apollyon strange because it simultaneously feels like not that much is happening in it, but at the same time EVERYTHING is happening in it! A lot of character work happens in this book and the relationships between the characters is developed immensely. Alex and Adrian also take a trip to the Underworld in Apollyon (which for me is a highlight of the series, I loved this part!), and there is a fair bit of adventure involved here. Apollyon in some sense is part one of the last novel and acts as such, building up to the finale.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Absolute must read FANTASTIC!!!! 2 Aug. 2013

I have never actually wrote a review on here before and I always look at the ratings people give books and go by that so I took a chance with this "Covenant series"..
I can honestly say these are one of the best series I have read I loved the "Mortal Instruments" and "Twilight and "Vampire Accademy" series but these are up there with them.
I cried ,I laughed and I was on the edge of my seat an absolute must read.
The chemistry between Alex and Aiden is spot on and I really got into both characters.
I started reading the first one two weeks ago and now I'm on "Apollyon" and nearly done and now I have to wait until November for the next one...
    Brilliant *****
