After I began losing interest in Venom, around 1984, I picked up a vinyl copy of "Apocalyptic Raids", which I eventually wore out. Never had I heard anything like this! This music is so raw, so brutal, but best of all, so riveting! It will not be appreciated by everyone, since it is technically rather simple and crudely repetitive, with an ample amount of moans and groans, and the vocals are almost 100% incomprehensible. However, it is the energetic creation of a youthful Tom Gabriel Fischer (a.k.a. Tom Warrior), who actually did a naively, masterful job with these tracks. They seem to be the only studio recordings that Hellhammer ever made. That is unfortunate, because this band is one of the first Doom/Death metal bands, one step beyond Black metal, and the music is so primitively interesting, while paving the way for the extreme metal bands yet to appear (just as Presley's Sun recordings led to rock 'n' roll).
Although I can write many words about this disc, I will never be able to do it justice. The listener must decide on his own. However, I will end with this thought: if we assume that "good" art is memorable, while "bad" art is forgettable, then this music is spectacular. You will never forget it.
