When White Wolf announced their intention to bring to an end their best selling and intriguing World of Darkness I was nonplussed. What motive could possibly lie behind such a decision. Creative drive or falling sales? After all, the Wordl of Darkness would be re-launched in a new, presumably fresh, way later in 2004. However as I was a long term fan I decided to give the people at White Wolf a chance and jumped on Board.
It was a godd decision. First off this book has very high production values, great cover, good layout inside, strong art and good writing.
Second, it does exactly what it says on the cover, presents ways to run the "End of the World" in your own Chronicle. Four scenarios are presented, one each for Wyld, Wrym and Weaver ascendant, and one tied to Exalted. Each of these scenarios are engrossing, intriguing and tough as hell. No matter what option you pick, your players will remember the resulting adventure for years to come.
With all of this enthusiasm for this book, why only four stars?
The book fails on one front, its tie in to the other W.O.D. Games, Vampire and Mage.
We are told early on that the book focuses on the Garou, and that it is not meant to tie in to the other games.
Then as we read the scenarios we see continual mention of mages, and most especially Vampires, the Demon of India, the Brotherhood of Set etc.
To me this is disatisfying. Either the games should be tied in strongly, as in the original rule books, or keep them clear of these little scraps thrown in.
Apart from that one minor weakness this book is flawless in its execution of its stated intentions. Add it to your collection today
