Aphrodite Les Folies - Live in London (2 CDs Included) [DVD]

Having been a Kylie fan since her days in Neighbours it goes without saying I was excited for this concert, and was not disappointed. I didnt think she could top the 'X' tour but she did. This concert was absolutely breath-taking and stunning. My 7 year old son is also a die-hard Kylie fan and this was his first concert he overwelmed by this concert and enjoyed every minute.

What a show. I am not a Kylie fan but when watching this you can see why she is so admired. Very professional and lavish. Wonderful.

Have been a long time Kylie fan and it has been very heartening to see her hit pay dirt in the 2000s with Lightyears and then the blockbuster that was Fever. Her unfortunate flop 'Impossible Princess' era yielded one big silver lining; The 'Live and Intimate' Tour, where she proved her critics wrong and thrilled her fans, with a small scale but scintillating production, in which she sang from her heart and more importantly LIVE.

The same Kylie, has in the past decade and more proved to be a consistent performer in the tour stakes. The subsequent tours got bigger in staging and finally Fever-Live in 2002, was her first major arena tour. The eye popping intro, to the inspired musical reinventions of her hit tunes to intricate and fun choreography and dazzling costumes, were all memorable and for the first time she was counted as a consummate entertainer

This is one department, that Kylie, has never failed her legion of fans. Her singing, her warm hearted interactions and personality always shines brightly hrough from start to finish in every tour! and this tour is no different.

The Les Foiles, in support of her Aphrodite album is one dazzling production. The song list is top notch, taking the best of the album and mixing it some of her crowd pleasing hits and surprising covers like 'There must be an angel' fitting perfectly in her 'Angel' sequence. The WOW inducing revolving stage during 'Slow', the samba fused 'Better the devil you know', the always infectious `What do I have to do' and a rock version of her monster hit `Head'. The show stopper without a doubt is ofcourse the encore with the water fountains, all of which ensures her status as touring queen remains unscathed !

As usual, the tour's conceptualization and direction is helmed by William Baker and aside from the above mentioned highlights, I do have some personal grouses.

Kylie's shows always celebrates camp and slight OTTness, especially with a parade
of semi naked dancers at her disposal ! But it felt a little too forced and cheesy on this tour, like the cart pulling with gas masks wearing hunks during 'I believe in you' and the effete vogue-ing and naked boyfriend images of the giant screens during Cupid boy. The chair dancing to Get out of my way has been seen before and stuck out badly. Also a lot of the costumes, especially the feathers, the shiny capes in the encore etc seemed borrowed from Showgirl !

The camera work, while mostly good, also needs a more professional touch than William can provide. The intro, would have benefitted with shots of the audience reaction and more long shots of Slow or the Encore section, would have showcased the scale of the staging more effectively for instance.

Also there were some amazing aerialists through the show, but in most of the segments, they somehow don't seem to stand out when filming, which is unfortunate.

But all in all, the dvd is a top notch and a must for every kylie fan. She proves once again that she's on top of the game each time !
