4.0 out of 5 stars Great book - shame its no good for PC users!!, 31 Jul 2008

What a shame Aperture 2 only works on a Mac platform. Those PC users are missing out on a great bit of software and a great instructional book.

Having Aperture 2 is great as it is a powerful bit of software. I have reviewed it here and I like it. but you need this book to get the most out of the software.

The book is quite expensive but it is great value as it covers most everything you need to learn the programme. Lets be frank, when you buy software its ususal to find how to get the basics out of it and in real terms we only use 10% of the power of the software. What a waste. If you read this book then you are gonna be nearer 99%. I always believe that no one but the writers can get 100% out of this type of software.

The book is well laid out with chapters featuring the basic steps to start producing great images to the real meat of the programme. It is well written and easy to follw. Why then only 4 stars not 5. Well there are a few errors in it. I think maybe it wasn't proof read properly and if you work your way through the book, though you will learn to get the max from this software, you will get a bit irritated, like me, on little errors. ie commands which don't work like changing the orientation of images in batches and another is where it tells you that you will have a highlight around the image in yellow when it defaults to white. Minor irritations but aggrevating as it makes yoo believe you have not followed the instructions correctly.

The book is one of a number of Apple Pro Training series Manuals and I have yet to find one which wasn't invaluable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Apple Pro Training Series - Aperture 2, 15 Sep 2008
By Kevin Morris "Wedding Photographer" (Surrey UK) - See all my reviews

I bought Aperture 2 and thought I had got to grips with the basics. I decided to buy this book as a reference for developing my skills. As a reference it is great. However, I have recently been following Richard Harrington's pod casts, one of the authors, and they have moved me on considerably. The book is no longer simply a reference point- it is a road map for discovering the amazing potential of this incredible software.
Own a PC? Buy a Mac, buy Aperture 2, buy this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good but expensive, 11 Jun 2009
All the features are explained and the DVD work-throughs are very helpful. I can't really find anything to moan about and it has opened up the software for a novice.
