Reviews

Mark Ruffalo stars in this romantic comedy as Alex, a young painter who suddenly finds his life taking a turn for the worse when he fails to land an exhibition show. Kicked out by his girlfriend, he finds himself living in a low-rent apartment block surrounded by eccentric neighbours, and starts a relationship with the girl who lives across the hall (Beth Ulrich). But Alex soon discovers that dating your neighbour can be a drawback when you want to split up with them.

If you are having trouble sleeping then this is definitely the film for you... I needed matchsticks in the end to keep my eyes open. I think they were trying for something a bit quirky but failed miserably. Mark Ruffalo is great as the back up man but doesn't have enough charisma to lead a film. To be honest the film could have 30 minutes shorter and it was only an 1hr 20 anyway...

I really like Mark Ruffalo and decided to buy this even after reading the three 1* reviews, and I'm glad I did. This film is eleven years old and the quality of acting isn't what we'd expect today, but it's still Mark Ruffalo doing what he does best - playing a laid back, likeable character. The film isn't fast paced or hysterically funny, but if you're looking for a pleasant, meandering, kind-of love story, you could do a lot worse than choose this.

I bought this DVD because it was cheap. I had low expectations. They were met. This was a very slow meandering film that seemed to lose pace and plot about 20 minutes in and never really recovered. The only enjoyable element was the eminently watchable and comedic Mark Ruffalo who managed to raise the level of the film from the truly awful to the marginally entertaining.
